The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Need a plow???

This post expired on May 10, 2023.

Sorry to bother you one more time on your busy Friday but I wanted to share another contact name. If you would like help plowing a spot for a garden or just need someone to till up some area to plant something, I have spoken to Patrick DeMarco at 4860 St. Rt. 55 who does this task for a fee. If you are interested in this, you can reach him at 937-631-0827. It certainly is not too late to put a garden out, especially with the threat of frost this weekend. While I have not used Mr. DeMarco personally I have spoken to him on the phone and found him through a yard sign announcing that he plows “food plots”. I loved the ingenuity of connecting this task with the demand that exists for many. So here is the start of my “sow it forward” posts where we use the strength of our customer base to help close the gaps in our food system!

Enjoy your day and remember to shop locally today for something special for Mom, yourself, or a great lady in your life that has been maternal to you and yours!
