The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Good Friday to you!

This post expired on July 12, 2023.

Good morning everyone! As I hope the weather improves and gives our growers a chance to dry out today, please keep dry thoughts coming their way! Moisture makes everything more difficult when it comes this often as the growth of fungus, molds, and just being able to get into the garden is a challenge. Please send kind words of support to them as they are trying to recover from the high winds too which could have toppled their corn, unstrung their climbers like beans and squash, or brought trees down in the middle of their patch.

Any way you slice it, please keep them in your thoughts as they try to regroup and harvest what must certainly be a challenge this summer. They will overcome and we will be smiling when we bite into those precious items! Have a great Friday and if anyone has any pull with Mother Nature, this would be a good time to ask for her kindness!

The market is open and ready for you!
