The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

X-Cel Feeds has some exciting news!

The organic feed division of Honeyville Feed & Supply (the Wolcottville, Indiana facility) was recently purchased by a co-op formed by mostly dairy farmers from that area. They want to ensure a continued source of quality organic feeds well into the future. They are in the process of building a new mill and the fact that the new owners are also “customers” means that the products manufactured there should remain TOP QUALITY – if not better than before. The new organic feeds are in bags with the logo W.O.L.F. (Wolcottville Organic Livestock Feed) imprinted on them.

Therefore we are going to reduce the price of all organic feeds in stock that are in a bag with the Honeyville logo or feed tag on it by $5.00 per bag (price on market reflects this discount). That will be 9-50# bags of Organic 16% Layer, 5-50# bags of Organic Cracked Corn, and 1-50# bag of Organic Oats. This is NOT old product, we simply want to avoid any problems that might arise from having the same feed in different bags.

Non-GMO feeds remain as before – from Honeyville Feed & Supply.

Thank you Kurt and Susan!
