The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Roam

Roam if you want to
Roam around the world
Roam if you want to
Without wings, without wheels
Roam if you want to
Roam around the world
Roam if you want to
Without anything but the love we feel…
(Roam-B52s)

Soooooo, your market manager is back from the most perfect lake vacation with her high school pals. This vacation is now a summer tradition. A coming together of our group from both near and far. We had sun, we had fun, we had loads and loads of wine, and moonlight dinners that we prepared, together, and coffee mornings with breakfast that we all prepared, drifting into mimosa mornings, drifting into mojito mornings, and glittering away the days, basking in us, the paths we’ve chosen, the old days, the now days, the people we were, the people we are…all of us, having roamed the world, in one way or another.

On Saturday night, we headed off the lake, all dressed for a night of fun, in Charlotte, to see a trio of 80s groups.

The Thompson Twins, B52s, Boy George with Culture Club. We were decked out in 80s-esque outfits, joining the ranks with all of our peers, also past club kids from that very special decade…the 80s.

When the B52s played the song that I have chosen for today’s weblog, I danced, and remembered that when this song was released, I had already been through high school, college, California, New York, Dallas, and had just started my life in Raleigh. The album, Cosmic Thing, had released, and this was one of my favorite songs from that album.

So, when they played the song, on Saturday night, under the glittering moonlight, I couldn’t help but think how appropriately it summed up the vacation, our friendships, our lives…all the roaming, all the years, only to roam right back to each other…

And, this market is such a part of that roaming theme. We have roamed through many years, together, and here we are…still a market, still with orders, still with customers who all roam, in and out…

Today is Wednesday, we close the market at 8am, this morning, and I would love it if you felt compelled to roam around to us, and shine some glittering dance floor lights, at us, as your toss us your orders…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
