The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Lettuce Update From Old Souls Farm

Good morning, lovely customers…I received an email from Nick and Ethan at Old Souls Farm, and it will be impacting all lettuce orders in today’s market pickup.

I will copy the letter so that you know the issue, and that they are working hard to get things worked out…

If you had orders from them, for today, I will be working with the Y desk, when I get to the market, to make sure all totals are fixed. If you notice that your total is still reflecting the lettuce, please let me know, this evening.

Also, this will take a bit of my time, on top of an already extremely large market, so if I could ask everyone to not pick up, early orders. The 4:30 pick up time will help me get to the market, fix all order totals, and set things up!

Here is the email…

Valued Old Souls Farm’s Customer:

Wanted to get the word out ASAP. News from the greenhouse is we will not have any Spring mix, Bibb or Arugula tomorrows delivery 12/13 and Friday 12/14.

A mechanical interruption has affected our yields. Fill rates will continue to rise quickly over the following weeks. Working through this issue now and all hands on deck to remedy this situation

Disappointed to have to bring you this news but we are empty handed for the remainder of the week.

Hopefully you will have time to source elsewhere. Again, we apologize and please call Nick with any questions (614) 307 1642.

Sincerely,

Ethan Snyder
