The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:
Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!
Sorry to bother but...
Did you know there were fantastic recipes on our market website? They are even sorted by what is in season! Head on over to http://Champaignoh.Locallygrown.net to see the great maple syrup recipes currently in the peak of freshness! You will be amazed at what you can make at home! Vendors are always encouraged to add more recipes so stop back often throughout the growing season!
I bet you thought that was going to be “bring your own bunny” but really it is your market bag! We’re streamlining your shopping experience and are heading to zero-waste! Please help us reach that goal by bringing your own bag to market pickup! I know we have provided ones in the past, but we are growing up and need to discontinue the waste they were causing. Thank you also for checking your order at pickup! All of this is an effort to reduce the work by market volunteers and optimize the process! We appreciate your help on this and will see you Thursday! ! !
Are you ok?
Hello market shoppers! I have yet to hear from many of our regulars and hoping you are all ok! I know you might have too many leftovers in the refrigerator but please remember we are here to serve you and time is running out to shop this week. The market closes tomorrow evening at 8 pm. We miss you and hope you didn’t get packed away with the Easter decorations or left town with Mr. Bun E. Rabbit! Come on over at http://Champaignoh.Locallygrown.net and see us!
To everyone celebrating Easter today, I hope it was a wonderful day for you and yours! Just a note that the market is open and ready to help you restock your kitchen!

Some sad news...
I am so sorry to report that our market has lost a special friend as Kay Charles, grandmother of Bishop Sanders, has passed away. For those of you that know Bishop, perhaps our youngest vendor and grandson to all the regulars of the Champaign County Farmers Market, you know how important his grandparents are to him. They gardened together with Kay processing tomatoes by the bushel. Her smile and optimism were contagious. Bishop clearly exhibits many of her traits. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Bishop and his entire family. She will certainly be missed.
For those wishing to send a note of sympathy, I believe his address is 906 Wooddale Drive, Urbana, OH. 43078. Thanks to both Pam and Charlene for letting us know.
Updates at the market...
In a few weeks, you will notice a change in the payment process of orders. You will soon be paying for your items at the front desk of the Y and not at our table. The process will only change slightly but it should allow streamlining a bit. You will still come first to our checkout table but will take your invoice to the front desk after we have checked your items against your invoice. Any recipts for credit card payments can be returned to our table to tally all sales. The Y is getting new software which will allow you to pay directly to them. I believe we are two weeks away from this happening based on when they will roll-out their new software. Exciting times and we thank the Y for suggesting this assistance! I will clarify which methods of payment will be accepted, but my guess is more options will be allowed! Stay tuned!
Don’t forget the market is open at http://Champaignoh.locallygrown.net!
