The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:
Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!
Sorry Carol, I forgot! Here is the website link for you. https://champaignoh.locallygrown.net
Reminder that it is Monday!
If you happened to still be focusing on the time change instead the fact it is Monday, I’m here to share you have until tomorrow night to order this week. The market closes tomorrow night so order up buttercups!
Try this one….sorry!
Can you help out a researcher?
Good Friday afternoon friends! A couple of short announcements for you. First, Jessica Chadwell, a friend of the local foods discussion, is looking for help in taking a short survey. As your opinion is always important, please take a few minutes (it took me like 3) to answer a few questions about your shopping habits. The survey can be found at surveymonkey.com/s/osulocalfood. If you have any problems with the link, let me know. It would be wonderful if as many as possible would complete it.
Secondly, I have heard you loud and clear that you would like a link to shop the market included in my webblasts to you. I will try to remember to do that and will try to do it correctly. I am no master of the webworld yet Eric’s software does make this very easy. Thanks to Carol and others for requesting the link so you can shop instead of search. I’ll try!
Don’t forget the tab on the market choices that includes weekly specials. There is always a deal lurking there so check it out!
Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the melting snow! I saw three robins again today so I’m thinking Spring must be just around the corner. Good luck making up for the lost sleep when we turn our clocks back too. Sorry to see that happen but I will surely love the change in daylight visibility!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sorry for the delay
Good evening! Sorry for the delay as I just can’t get my habits wrapped around this opening thing on Thursdays! I’ll get there but geesh am I slow on the uptake. Sorry for the delay and thanks to Pam, Charlene and Mark for the heavy lifting tonight! Great market guys!
That’s a wrap! Thank you to everyone who ordered from the market this week! We will see you Thursday at market pickup!
Oops! I totally forgot to give a shout out to two specials this week! Be sure to look for the bulk pork Chorizo from Oakview for $4.75 and the Cosmic Charlie French Loaf for $3.00. Ummm ummm good!
I also had to laugh and thought I would share something. The March 2013 copy of Better Homes and Gardens actually said “Now that growing vegetables is trendy, so is preserving.” Isn’t that great! Not that I profess we do anything to be trendy, but it is great that we can rest assured our hard work in the garden and kitchen is getting noticed! Whether you are new to canning or have felt like you must have personally helped Ball Canning stock increase, the benefits of growing your own food is amazing. I thought it was funny and am so proud that mainstream media is helping to share what is going on inside our Better Homes and Gardens! Great job everyone! Now if they just had a fashion show for what we wear to the garden! Yikes, maybe we don’t want that!
Reminder for market closing...
Well here it is! Your Tuesday reminder that today is your last chance to order for this week. The market will be closing tonight at 8 so get your cravings fulfilled! I see new jellies and meats, new breads and more so hurry to the checkout lane…or in our case, the confirmation screen! Have a great day and be careful if you have to travel tonight!
The calm before the white stuff...
Well they are saying it is coming but who knows, right? Snow is snow and if we get it, the weather rock will turn white proving that yes, it snowed! All we know for certain is that it is national pound cake day, a great time to celebrate the life of Dr. Seuss, time to love one another and support your community by shopping local! To that end, just remember that the market closes tomorrow at 8 pm and the roads should be cleared off by Thursday evening just in time for market pickup! Share the love and read a Dr. Seuss book to a loved one while eating a piece of local pound cake!
Read All About It!
I have been thinking of a way to share a resource, that although is one I love dearly, is better used by being shared. I have a vice to admit. I love books! So here’s the plan…I will lend these as long as they keep coming back to the roost. I’ve posted a few randomly-selected works and you can sign them out just like purchasing a product, but of course there is no fee. Let’s try to have them out for two weeks at a time and if you need longer, you can email me and we’ll make it work. We’ll see how it goes and I’m hoping they will be kept safe in your trust. I’ll add to the list as I find time. I know you trendsetters believe in lifelong learning too so I feel this is good for both of us. If I find some snag with copy write issues, I might have to just bring them to the market to set out, but let’s try and see how it works! The more we all learn, the better we can teach others and expand our services to our communities in which we serve through all avenues we touch! Enjoy!
