The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Winter

And it sure been a cold, cold winter
And the wind ain’t been blowin’ from the south…
(Winter-The Rolling Stones)

Little local market of love customers…it’s a winter day, out there!!

I am just planning all of my meal plans for the week, while the wind blows, and the snow swirls. I like a week of planned out breakfasts, planned out dinners. If that part of my life is set, it allows me to continue at the pace I call my other life. My business life.

Summertime is all about winging it, throwing something on the grill, chopping up fresh vegetables, slicing up local fruits as they come into season, but winter…winter is a tricky bag.

I cook much differently in the winter. I like richer sauces, heartier textures, deeply colored vegetables.

I love to menu plan for the week, and, I love cooking/baking large, on the first day of the week, so that I have options, on hand, for the rest of the dishes of the week.

Summer is all about playtime. Winter is all about get me home, pronto, and when I arrive, I want a dinner plan, a glass of wine, candles lit, and the ability to ease into a comfort kind of dinner.

The best way to have the things on hand to accomplish this? Order much of it from our market. The ordering is easy, the pickup is a breeze, the food is all of amazing quality, and it’s local…

Go ahead…menu plan your week, and then place your orders…

It will make these winter days a bit easier…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Little Bit Of Soul

And if your party falls
Cause there’s nobody groovin’
A little bit o’ soul and
It really starts movin’, yeah!
(Little Bit Of Soul-The Little Darlings)

We need music, man…we need some soul, man…we need the party even when the weather wants to bring you down. We need to stay groovy…

So, this song with the lyrics, seemed the perfect little implant to give you, today, on a cold Saturday…

And, while we are talking about soul, what about this little local market of love? Of soul?

Our customer base if full of heart and soul, and you are GIVING us the love, man. You are GIVING it. And, in turn, we want to give YOU, even more!!

Here are some highlights…

We have essential oils making their way to us!! Making their debut, soon, will be the addition of ELM TREE ESSENTIALS, your favorite soap artisans, with a select curated set of the oils that go into their soaps!!

We will also be bringing on another farmers’ market vendor, with select oils, that ELM TREE ESSENTIALS will not be offering. These two vendors will be working to bring each of their own collections that will enhance the selections, so that all customers get what they would like, with a nice variety from each vendor!!

We are working to bring you locally made pies!! And, cakes!! And, cupcakes!! We have reached out to some of our local retailers/eateries for varieties of these items!!

Your market managers of Cosmic Charlie, and Oakview Farm Meats, who are also, Hippie and the Farmer, have already planted their organic seeds, from their seed saving program, to start our herbs, and some of our produce, inside, to be able to be early in the season, to offer you an wide variety of all organic herbs!! Last year, our all organic herbs and produce was such a hit, that we are expanding our gardens, this year, with even more expansion plans to roll out, soon!!

Our new goal for this new year is to make this not only a local farmers’ market, but to make it a local marketplace for assorted items!! Still locally produced, from assorted local forces! You will want to continue to read the weblogs, to find out what is happening, and when…

My goal is to bring this all together so that the local growers/producers/artisans of this market can co-mingle, hopefully offer local products to local establishments, for cross promoting the importance of an all local chain of commerce happening…if you lose your local, you lose you heart and soul…

And, we are in talks, at the moment, to make this market more even more accessible to customers outside of the immediate local vicinity. Those customers who need our market, but it’s not easy for them to get to us…but, that will be for down the line…but something to get excited about!!

So, how’s that for a little bit of Saturday soul…this market has all the soul you need…add it to your day, and use the weekend to get your orders in!!

The local soul…get groovy, man…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Hazy Shade Of Winter

Well, we certainly have entered snow, cold, wind, and hazy conditions! The hazy shade of winter…cue the song implant!

I was just thinking that while you are keeping warm, before you begin your new year’s preparations, and making those resolutions, how about planning your upcoming cold weather menu items?

We have so many options for locally produced meat, from several vendors! When snowy days hit, think about soups, stews, casseroles, cassoulets, slow roasted dishes….

We have all the dairy, cheeses, yogurts that you need to have on hand, for drinking, cooking, baking, or snacking…

Breads, pizza dough, cookies, brownies, candies, and other treats….

Lettuces and greens for salads, wilting as side dishes, or soups! Greens are easy to add to any dish…

It’s nice to stock eggs, jams, sauces, syrups, frozen berries, and honey to make marinades, breakfast dishes, drizzles, salad dressings, toppings for yogurt….

Candles to warm your spirit, scented soaps that are easy on your skin…

Field corn for leaving out for birds and animals, and specially made dog treats for your furry friends…

Get it all, from the comfort of where you are keeping warm….

What better way to stay warm than with the coffee selections that are listed…

The hazy shade of winter just got more enjoyable…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
