The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Weather watch???

Rumor has it the maple trees on Connelly’s Maple Sugar farm have some sap bucket necklaces starting as of last week. Will the sap be flowing soon? Only that sassy lady Mother Nature knows! And we won’t leave out Marc and Shari at Valley View Woodlands…their trees are just as ready to dance! Get your griddles hot and your batter stirred ’cause its about maple syrup time folks!

Market news!

Just a quick note to let you know the market is open! Shop until Tuesday night til your heart is content! Here’s hoping you had a joyous Valentine’s Day and have a restful Presidents Day weekend too!

Reminder: Last call!

Just a reminder that the market closes in just over an hour! Please get your selections made and proceed to the checkout! Thanks friends and have a great day!

Good day shoppers!

Good afternoon everyone! Hoping you and your Toto are safe! Just a reminder that the market is available for orders until tomorrow night at 8 PM. We hope you will support your favorite vendors and try a new one each week if you are able. Again, if there is something you would like to see added to the market, give us a shout! You can also email your vendor of choice directly and request something. While there are no guarantees, I doesn’t hurt to ask, right?

Also we were curious on something…do you like the additional days we have added to shop or are two days enough? We are tracking the sales and some of you seem to wait til the last minute anyway so extra days don’t seem to matter. Let us know what works best for you as we aim to please! We want to make this as easy as possible for you to shop locally!

Have a great day and show us some love if you can!

Hello friends!

Good evening and thank you for a super market tonight! Just a short note that the market is now open!

Tick, tock!

T-minus thirty minutes! Get shakin’ folks if you need to put an order in tonight. That is all…thank you!

Looking for love!

Hey locavores! Just wanted to point out that if you have yet to place your order this week, please show us some love! Now that we have a few extra days to order, we didn’t want you to forget about us! So, show us some love and we’ll send it back your way on Thursday when you pick up the freshest, best items! Love you all!

Commercial Kitchen Chat!

Here’s a great example of a Commercial Kitchen. We do not have one super close to us (they are located at Ohio State, Athens, Kenyon College, and this one called NOCK/CIFT near Bowling Green). It would be awesome if we could do this here, don’t you think?
Here’s the link but it looks like you might need to copy it?

The finest meteorologists!

Thanks Chuck and Phil! Looks like Spring will be coming early! You silly critters are giving us hope we could get out there and grow something! If you haven’t planned your garden, there’s still time! Lots of time…at least six weeks:).

Help needed!

We have an oportunity to help a friend who is gathering some info. Can you help by filling out a survey? Even better, it is a survey about local food preferences. Check it out and lend a hand if you have a minute.

Like to eat? Ohioans are showing a growing interest in eating locally grown foods. A local survey is being conducted, through the support of the Ohio State Extension Office in Miami County, to better understand consumer interest and perceptions of buying local foods; and your help is needed! Please share your opinions by going to

www.surveymonkey.com/s/osulocalfood
and filling out a short and completely anonymous survey. Your participation is greatly appreciated. Thank you! If you have any questions please feel free to contact Brian Raison at raison.1@osu.edu or Jessica Chadwell at jess.chadw@gmail.com

Please fill it out for us!
