The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

You have until 10pm, this evening, to get orders in!! I am off to manage the Mechanicsburg Farmers and Artisans Market but I will be watching…I will know who all loves us…let’s see it!

This week…a new Market Love playlist will be given away!!

Eight Days A Week

Ooh, I need your love, babe
Yes, you know it’s true
Hope you need my love, babe
Just like I need you…
(Beatles – Eight Days A Week)

So, I know I could use eight days a week, every week!! It seems like before I know it, the week is once again over with me looking back at it like…um, where the heck did you disappear to??

And so it goes with this market. We could use an extra day to this market, we can always use your love, and in return, we are sure that you can use our local love!

Local customers, your local little market, you love us, we love you…we hope we continue to bring you nothing but sunshine and love.

Since we don’t have that extra eighth day to show you just HOW much we love you, you need to get your orders in, on time, in the seven day week:)

We’ve got nothing but love for all of you and want to show you…let us help you plan the week! We are there, loving you all the time…

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Like A Hurricane

You are like a hurricane…
There’s calm in your eye…
And I’m gettin’ blown away…
(Neil Young – Like A Hurricane)

This song and lyrics remind me of our little local market of love AND about yours truly, these days.

My life as the local bakestress in two counties is a crazy one on most days. Add in a summer market season and it gets a bit crazier. Top it with managing two markets, the crazy train leaves the station. Then, add my downtown board position, AND, my chairperson on an upcoming downtown event, Art Affair on the Square, and you guessed it…crazy on a hurricane level!

Our little local market has grown and grown and become so popular with so many customers, vendors, wannabe customers, that each week seems to get crazier and crazier with orders, market pickup, and running the market in general. A market that once started as a tiny raindrop in a really big bucket is now, at times, a hurricane.

But, you know what? I operate best under hurricane conditions. I love the fast pace, the crazy days, the people I am constantly in contact with, the events, the markets, my shop, my venues…it’s a life that many would shy away from but I just follow my mental hurricane prep list that I adopted when I lived in a little beach town in South Florida. I am always just prepared. If I am prepared, I can take on anything….just like this little local market.

Each week, right at this time, I get ready to open the market, again, for the week. It’s a crazy time for me. I walk in from market pickup at the YMCA. I make sure vendors and products are all a go. I close out the past week market. I hope like crazy that the customers we just sent home with orders are happy! Then, as soon as I publish the Weblog, it’s on.

Fast and furious, we begin another rollercoaster ride of a week. Our own little local hurricane. And it’s a blast!!!

Get ready, be prepared, and come to us with your lists, your wants, and your needs. We have just about everything, local, that you could need for the week ahead.

Be the calm in your storm….don’t let the threat of hurricane type weeks get to you. Let us worry about that. All you need to do is give us your orders.

Tonight, we open the market, once again….get ready…we have more produce, all of your standby favorites, new products, always a new vendor or two, and more fun than any market should have.

Oh…and an all new Market Of Love playlist….we are on our third variation of a playlist!!! Who will be the lucky winner?? Oh, wait…let’s make it more fun…who will be the lucky 4 winners??

Have a lovely weekend, enjoy the days, the weather, the local love…

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Closing Time

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Get Your Groove On!

The market will be closing in 45 minutes!! Don’t miss out on the fun of ordering, the ease of pick up, or the goodness of local food!!

Groove yourself to the market site, place your orders, and be happy that your week is complete!

All Day and All Of The Night

All day and all of the night…
All day and all of the night time…
All day and all of the night…
(All Day & All Of The Night-The Kinks)

So, you know what’s really jazzy about this little local market of love? You guessed it by the song lyrics of the day….we are open, all day, AND all of the night!!

Instead of a market that is only open for 3 hours, one day a week, we are open, for you, all the time. Except for a 24 hour span of time. I know that the big super stores brag about the same thing but with those stores, you end up with mass produced, lack luster, sub par, shipped in from where the heck? places!

With us, you know our faces, you know our products, you know our stories…so, in the comfort of whatever you are doing, wherever you are in, all day, and all of the night, you’ve really got us. (As you can see, The Kinks, are my baking tunes of choice, this morning, with the implant of song lyrics:) Just for you. And, we do it because we love building our market with you, the most important part of this market!

I can’t tell you how many nights, I wake up with something on my mind, or a new Cosmic idea, or just the fact that I now can exist on little sleep, big mugs of coffee, and some loud tunes…but, what is fun to see, is that there are other insomniacs out there who are ordering all night at our market. I always have my phone, right with me, as I sleep. On the nights I am awake or up late baking into the early morning hours, I hear email alerts of orders coming through. I love knowing that so many people are ordering when the time fits their schedule.

So, remember…not only are we the little LOCAL market of love but we are there for you…all day and all of the night:) We will always leave the light on for you.

Today is Tuesday…the market will close at 10pm, tonight! Get those orders in before we close!! More produce is in, our weekly amazing products are all listed, we have yet another new vendor ready to hit the market, soon!! The fun just never ends!!

Get your groove on…no matter if it’s all day or all of the night…

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Let Your Love Flow

Just let your love flow like a mountain stream…
And let your love grow with the smallest of dreams…
And let your love show and you’ll know what I mean.. It’s the season..
(Bellamy Brothers – Let Your Love Flow)

Here we are, again, on a Sunday, with my usual Sunday rambling in this Sunday Weblog. I have grown to love this little Sunday morning time when I connect with you, reflect with you, and share with you.

Today, is just all about the market love. The word continues to get out, the market continues to grow, and it seems like a new vendor is being accepted into the market, on a weekly basis.

When I am out at the physical markets that I vend or in my Cosmic shop, I continue to spread the word about this wonderful market. As I talk about and explain about it, the general interest grows and I can see excitement in the person’s eyes. They thank me for the cards, for the explanation, and with that, we seem to gaining new customers, each week, as well. Because it’s not just me out there spreading the word, it’s all of you…customers and vendors, both. We all feel the love, the pride, the excitement! We know we have an amazing opportunity to bring our amazing products to the masses, right here, in our little local corner of love.

So, continue to go out, let your love flow and let it show for this market. Showing the love is what it’s all about. Bringing the best of the best is what it’s all about. Generating the never ending excitement is what it’s all about.

As you wind down from this holiday weekend, think about showing both the market and yourself a bit of love. Get the week started by placing your weekly orders so you don’t have to think about it, the rest of the week. All you have to do is come to Thursday’s pick up, and we hand you the goodness to go!

Have a lovely end to the holiday…we look forward to working for you, this week!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

America

It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw…I’ve gone to look for America
(Simon And Garfunkel – America)

Lovely song, all about searching…and a search that led across America. All with a lovely song to lead the way..

Simon and Garfunkel. I was so obsessed with them. They remind me of two very stand out teachers that I was lucky enough to encounter in my school journey. The first was a student music teacher that we had in 3rd grade. She came to us as a college student and she was so chic, so bohemian, so totally in tune with the times. The time was 1973.

She taught us all of the Simon and Garfunkel songs in our music class. She planned a student production with all of us singing songs from the late 60s and early 70s. As you can imagine, I was elated!! She was my idol, her music struck a chord with me, and I worshipped her. Sadly, on a rainy Monday morning, we got to our music class only to find that our lovely Miss G. was no longer there. She had been dismissed. Some parents felt that their children didn’t need the music education that she provided. Many were sad…I was heartbroken.

My other favorite teacher was, ironically, another student teacher of music. He came to us much later. We were all in high school. He was teaching us in band. I love and adore music. I did not love band. To me, it was just torture. But, then, walked in a young Mr. G (again…music, the letter G in the names). Mr. G let us explore rock and roll songs. Our drummers were coming alive in drumming that was so foreign to our ears. The chords and notes for all of us were now all about rocking and rolling and exploring the works of the 60s and 70s even though we were now in the late 70s and early 80s.

He even had an end of the term cookout/party at his big old house for all of his band kids. I am pretty sure it would be frowned on, now, but it was 1979, and it’s how we did things. I remember looking at his extensive album collection only to see his collection of the Simon and Garfunkel albums with the same songs of my lovely Miss G.

Mr. G noted my interest, my almost tears, my smile. He let me pick out two of his albums to keep. I still have them, tucked into my very vast album collection, to this day.

The kindness of two G’s, both out to make the world a bit brighter with their love of music. Their wonder, their excitement, their quest…isn’t that what life and the everyday should be about?

As we celebrate our country’s birthday, tomorrow, as we embrace this little local market, as we think about how we all are connected, how we all come together, how we all help out…the way it should always be, to make each day in this country and in this little market that we call home…just put a little song in your hearts.

Make each day just a little brighter by keeping that song in your heart. Make each day a bit of a celebration by keeping that song in your heart.

As I open the market, this evening, I want to say, Happy Fourth of July…think about all that it means, and celebrate in song…

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

I and Love and You

Your dreams to catch the world, the cage
The highway sets the travelers stage…
All exits look the same…
(Avett Brothers – I And Love And You)

This song…I have it on constant rotation, some mornings, when I am baking. I have been a huge Avett Brothers fan from way back. Back when they were a nobody band. A struggling bluegrass band. A tiny little record label. Playing tiny, little clubs, pubs, etc. They just kept at their craft. Playing to tiny venues, on the road, singing their passionate bluegrass melodies. The perfect example of the little machine that could. Look at them now.

Just like this market, look at us now. We started tiny, we started timid, we followed our passion, we got strong with your confidence in us, your support of us, and we grew from it.

I chose this song, today, for the lyric that I printed. It is a holiday weekend, I want to wish our lovely customers, vendors and YMCA staff a lovely time away. If your journey and adventures put you out on the roads, be safe, enjoy, come back to us.

I also chose this song because it reflects just how I feel about this market, and all of you. It takes all of us, the vendors, plus a certain kind of love, plus all of you, the customers, to put this equation all together.

So, pack your bags, hit the road, or just stay around and relax. We will be here when you return waiting to hear from you and ready to take your weekly orders.

With this, I also announce our Market Love Playlist winner…this week we see…Mike Corbin!!

Go in love, go in fun, we will see you after the holiday.

If you have an order to pick up, we will see you, tonight, at the YMCA!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Thank You!

Another great market!! We thank you for staying so loyal to the local love of this market!!

If you ordered, we will see you at Thursday’s pick up!! If not, we will see you when the market re-opens on Thursday night!

We would like to wish everyone a very safe holiday, this weekend…

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam
