The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Higher Ground

Till I reach my highest ground
No one’s gonna bring me down…
(Higher Ground-Stevie Wonder)

Note of Interest: When I was a flight attendant of the 1980s, Stevie Wonder was a regular passenger of mine, when I used to work the LAX-JFK night flights…lovely, lovely man.

Happy Friday, and happy shout out to last night’s customer who blared me some Stevie Wonder from her car! And, to all the customers who love to play me a melody, or ask about my sunglasses, or just have general compliments about the market, and put little love notes in with their payments…

This market, the customers, the vendors…what a local lovefest.

We are open, for the week of ordering. We say hello to a new vendor! Misty, of CrisMis farm with her body products, and exciting…she carries products for men, as well!! And, sage sticks…anyway, check it all out!

Update on beef…our beef producers both tell me that it won’t be long before they get reloaded from the processers!! The animals are in, but the waiting is the hardest part. Don’t worry…it won’t be much longer!

We await updates, as well, on the next round of asparagus! Mother Nature seems like she is FINALLY going to start giving the growers some love!!

Speaking of Mother Nature…she really did a nasty turn on us, last night. Thank you, to all who were waiting on orders during that crazy storm. We tried to fight the wind and downpours to still get you back on the road, in a timely manner!

I am headed back to the greenhouse, now, to help with the Friday orders. Of course, the skies look like rain, again…

Oh well…we are all riding on this higher ground of love, and we thank you, kindly…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
