The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Sweet Thing

And I will walk and talk
In gardens all wet with rain
And I will never, ever, ever, ever
Grow so old again.
Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
Sugar-baby with your champagne eyes
And your saint-like smile…
(Van Morrison-Sweet Thing)

Good evening, all of your little local market of love customers!!

Your market manager closed down the market pick up, tonight, got organized for the Friday pick ups, and is now home, all of my own market orders unpacked, dinner is simmering, wine is poured, candles lit, and Van Morrison filling the evening.

The weather was just beautiful, at pick up, and continues into the evening hours with all the honeyed hues pouring through the windows.

And then, well Van Morrison has been my spring time song master from as far back as I can remember. Drifting off into his lyrics just triggers so many memories of kicking around, where I grew up, looking for all the adventures that us West End kids loved to take off with.

Also, with this market being such a sweet, sweet thing, each week, and all of the lovely bonds that are forming with the new influx of customers, all of the amazing vendors, getting to know their customers, their own brotherhood/sisterhood of vendors getting to know one another, you couldn’t ask for more love pouring out from a well crafted market.

My favorite time of the week is to greet all of you, at your cars, getting to chat as I put your orders into your cars, and get to know you, a bit better, each week. Your other market manager is always hard at work, filling your boxes, along with my father, in the green house, and while they are behind the glass, working for you, they also share the excitement over you, the market, and what it is growing into!

So, I open the market, tonight, feeling so very, very honored that you choose to shop from us, each week. That you allow us to get to know you, send you off with local goodness, and hopefully a bit of sweet love, that you can pass on to others.

I do want to let all of the newer customers know that at this point in the season, I put my Cosmic Charlie soups and waffles to rest, while the summer warms up. They will be back in the fall, for the months of fall, winter, and early spring.

Also, thank you for being so very patient with our beef producers, these weeks. It’s tough stuff out there, like playing the lottery, to see if you will get your meat orders from the processing places. Our meat producers have never been is such demand, and they strive to get your needs met!

And, as the weeks turn into summer, we will see produce appear, little by little, as the producers begin to see growth!!

Just some sweet thoughts, this evening, as your market manager opens it all up, again, and thanks you, for allowing me to bring you the music, the food, the light the love, each and every week.

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
