The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Road To Nowhere

Well we know where we’re goin’
But we don’t know where we’ve been
And we know what we’re knowin’
But we can’t say what we’ve seen
And we’re not little children
And we know what we want
And the future is certain
Give us time to work it out…
(Talking Heads)

Well, we are not on the road to nowhere, but I have been revisiting my love of all my Talking Heads collection, and this song takes me back to move in day, junior year in college, AKA perhaps my most favorite, most epic, most fun, most daring year of all…lol. Also, probably the reason I had to go an extra semester to graduate, but, I digress.

This song was released on their, Little Creatures album, and I will always have this mental picture, memory, of moving back to school, with all of my sorority sisters, and just the love, the communal spirit, the helpfulness, the hopes, the dreams, the laughter, and the road of life’s lessons, just beginning, as we were all on the brink of our new paths, wherever they may take us.

On a side note…the gentleman that you see helping your other market manager, packing your orders, and organizing your plants/flowers, is my father, and each and EVERY semester, that man was front and center on move in day, helping each of my sorority sisters move in, carried our heavy trunks of clothing, room accessories, etc. The same man who was also present as I moved into my first apartment in Venice Beach, California, and carried my futon mattress, on his back, down the main drag, to my new digs.

Anyway, this song just always makes me think of all the positive in things, that hopes and dreams are always being formed, no matter what stage in life, and, that no matter how dismal life may seem, you can still look at things with a joyful hope.

The market is our own little oasis against all of the dismal news, I feel. Each week, we open the greenhouse to you, filling your cars, hopefully filling your lives with joy, as well as local goodness.

Happy Saturday, lovelies…and, add this song to your listening pleasure for the weekend…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
