The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Hazy Shade Of Winter

Well, we certainly have entered snow, cold, wind, and hazy conditions! The hazy shade of winter…cue the song implant!

I was just thinking that while you are keeping warm, before you begin your new year’s preparations, and making those resolutions, how about planning your upcoming cold weather menu items?

We have so many options for locally produced meat, from several vendors! When snowy days hit, think about soups, stews, casseroles, cassoulets, slow roasted dishes….

We have all the dairy, cheeses, yogurts that you need to have on hand, for drinking, cooking, baking, or snacking…

Breads, pizza dough, cookies, brownies, candies, and other treats….

Lettuces and greens for salads, wilting as side dishes, or soups! Greens are easy to add to any dish…

It’s nice to stock eggs, jams, sauces, syrups, frozen berries, and honey to make marinades, breakfast dishes, drizzles, salad dressings, toppings for yogurt….

Candles to warm your spirit, scented soaps that are easy on your skin…

Field corn for leaving out for birds and animals, and specially made dog treats for your furry friends…

Get it all, from the comfort of where you are keeping warm….

What better way to stay warm than with the coffee selections that are listed…

The hazy shade of winter just got more enjoyable…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
