The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Evergreen

Morning glory and midnight sun…
(Love theme from A Star Is Born-Barbra Streisand)

I am sure you are wondering where I am going with this sappy love song. But, it’s a classic, I’m in a contemplative mood, and over last weekend, when we were all in line, waiting to get into the amphitheater, to see our 80s groups, there was a billboard for the remake of this movie.

I literally stopped in my tracks. I remember the release of this movie. I remember being too young, according to my mother, to see the movie. But, I did get the album, actually, I think I lifted it from a older sibling of one of my friends.

I loved it, and knew every song from the movie. And, so, tonight, this song popped into my head, remembering seeing the movie poster, the other night.

This song stays with me, tonight, with some of the lyrics…

Ageless and ever (ever, ever)
Evergreen (evergreen)…

Describing my feelings, tonight, of many things, but where you all are concerned…my feelings for the market.

As you all know, I have been both your behind the scenes, AND, on site market manager for many, many years. I love you, I love the market, and I love the concept, still!! And, I love coming to you, via my silly little ramblings, through this weblog.

My hopes have always been to tie the weblog to music, to my love of all things that bring passion to my life. And, this market, is super up there, top of the list.

But, I have needed a change, and tonight, spoke with Paul, of the YMCA, about letting me step away from my on site duties, but allowing me to continue to run it, as always, from behind the scenes, with this weblog, and the general tasks, on the media end of things.

What I did ask to change was my on site duty, my every Thursday at the market site. I have found myself needing to be a bit more free, a bit more dedicated to other avenues of my businesses, and not Thursday evenings.

So, after seven years, your market manager remains your manager, but the market pick up will change, just a tiny bit.

You, the customer, will still come to the YMCA, still enter into the market location, still pay your market bill at the front desk, to Kim, but instead of yours truly, or your assistant manager, Mark, being there, Kim will have your orders ready to go, and after paying, you will then go and locate your name/order, and take it with you!! Nothing really changes, except you, seeing me, each week.

I remain as your manager, behind the scenes, I remain as a market vendor, but we are shaking things up, and letting me be free…

Spirits rise and their dance is unrehearsed…this makes me happy, it gives me freedom to do what I do, and it still allows me to be at the helm, passionate about this market, passionate about you…

So, with this, I will open the market for the week!!

FYI…if you ordered from Dugan Road Creamery, this week, your orders will all be delivered, tomorrow, to the YMCA. You may pick them up from the fridge, in the market area!!

More FYI…vendors…look for an email from me, tomorrow, concerning the small changes that will happen at drop off, beginning next Thursday!!

And…to all of us…all of us that are stars, including this market…

Ageless and ever (ever, ever)
Evergreen (evergreen)…

Let’s continue to help this market continue, and grow, and bloom in love…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
