The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Market Announcements

Just a few announcements that I wanted to post but did not want them to get lost in my Weblog of the day!

This is from Kent, of Nettle Creek…

I’ve added a new chicken product for Nettle Creek Farm and Ranch. We now have half birds that are ideal to put on the Grill! We have also added smaller birds that are perfect for the Crock Pot! And we have lowered prices on some of the larger birds.

From the Ruff family as a reminder…

Lee and Jennifer Ruff of End of the Road Farm would like to invite you on Sunday, June 22nd at 2 pm for a guided farm tour of their sustainable, draft-horse powered homestead. Samples of various goodies made from their sorghum, spelt flour, and pastured eggs will be provided.

Please wear comfortable walking shoes, as you’ll tour the crop fields, mobile chicken and pig pens, two market gardens, and horse paddock/pasture.

We ask that children be well supervised, as this is a working farm as well as our home, and as such, buildings are off-limits.

We look forward to sharing the afternoon with you, and hope you will join us with questions, enthusiasm, and an interest in seeing how and why we have chosen this wonderful farming life! Thank you!!

From LuAnn of Everyday Organics: (LuAnn and her sister, Lori, bring us the lovely granola products!)

Did you know…..The consumption of refined sugar is linked to: Obesity, Diabetes, Hypertention, High Blood Pressure, Inflammation, Depression and more?

Join us on June 24 at 6:30 p.m. for a free workshop designed to permanently change your relationship with sugar!!

So much going on in the locavore world!!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam
