The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:
Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

So, it’s that time, again…the time to announce this week’s Market Love playlist winner of the customer drawing!!
Summer Nights is just the most perfect summer song to announce the winner, to make you want to sing, to dance, to twirl all around!!
The summer, for me, was right before my freshman year in high school. I had taken a job as a summer nanny, to a family of four children, at their summer house up at Lake Erie.
It was the perfect summer solution. Cool house, on the sandy dune of the lake, I only had to watch the kids during the daytime hours, I was free to roam with the other nanny/baby sitters, that summer, in the evenings and nights.
The movie, Grease, had just come out. We spent our money on the movie, the album, and spent many evenings listening to the whole soundtrack.
We each had our own hopes of summer loves and this movie fed into the hopes and fun. We all wanted a Danny to our Sandy. We built summer friendships, bid each other goodbye once the end of August hit, and we went back to begin our lives in the fall. But, the fun of that summer remains a fun memory.
So fun, so innocent, and so perfect to usher in the next playlist winner!
