The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

You're So Vain

You’re so vain…
You probably think this song is about you…
You’re so vain…
I’ll bet you think this song is about you…
Don’t you?..
Don’t you?…
(Carly Simon-You’re So Vain)

So, I am in a total Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Carole King state of mind, today…

And, because of what I want to write about, here, this morning, well, this song lyric totally fits me.

In this little local market of love, we offer the best of the best in our local products. We are well known for our food products, spices, herbs, baked goods, locally produced meats, local fresh fish, local honey, local eggs, local dairy…we’ve got it all.

What doesn’t always get talked about are our super lovely products like locally handmade soaps, and the amazing oils that are on the market.

Today, I am talking to you about the goodness of these products and how they play into my own vanity:)

Behind the scenes from being your market manager, from being Cosmic Charlie, from being the girl around town on boards, councils, owning shops, you have me…the person, the girl, the vain one who has very specific demands. My hair, my look, the scent that I wear, and my skin:) All important, and all that I take very seriously.

I decided to write today’s weblog because I feel so strongly about ELM TREE ESSENTIALS soaps, and the essential oils from Swisher Hill Herbs.

Let’s start with the soap…Laura Miller makes amazing soaps. They smell great, they lather great, they make me happy to jump in the shower because they are such an experience in scent. She has many varieties but my one and only is the soap that she made and named after me…Cosmic Patchouli. I have been using her soaps since she came onto the scene. They are all natural, very light, very good to your skin. In the year that I have been using them, I have noticed such a difference in my skin tone since giving up commercially made soaps. Not to mention the amazing scent that lingers, all day, after using the soap. Now, I know patchouli is not the scent for many, but she has amazing varieties, and just added a new one.

This past weekend, I forgot to bring home a bar of Cosmic Patchouli from my shop, and when I went to shower, noticed that I was out and had to use a high priced body wash. My skin totally went into immediate dislike. I had to use extra lotion because of the drying effects. I disliked the scent, I disliked that the product was drying because of the chemicals in it, and I was amazed at the price tag.

Laura’s soaps are moisturizing, almost no lotion is needed after showering, they are good for your skin, the scent is amazing, one bar lasts a super long time, AND…the price is SO affordable. I urge everyone to order just one bar of her soap, this week. Try her soap in this awful cold weather. Your skin will thank her…

Oils…they are essential! And, we have oils on our market. Charlene and Joe Stapleton of Swisher Hill Herbs have quite an array of oils.

In my vain life, I like to smell really good. I love to have a signature scent. I like what oils can do to improve skin tone, I love that the scent lingers on your clothing, on your skin, and I love that the price tags on these oils are, again, UNBELIEVABLY, affordable.

Charlene can tell you about each oil, their uses, what can be done with them, and why you need them in your life.

My personal favorite…DRUMROLL…her essential Patchouli oil. I use an all natural, no frills body lotion, everyday. When I open a new bottle of lotion, I add the patchouli oil to it. I know the exact amount to add for my liking. Since I have been adding the oil to the lotion to make my own scent, my skin looks amazing, and my skin smells so good, and, yeah…it’s my signature. And…goodbye high priced perfumes.

I recently started using her Geranium oil, also. With that oil, I like to add it to my face cream. Let me tell you…AMAZING things start to happen. You see fine lines not so apparent, you get a tightening of your face, an amazing glow, and an amazing scent.

Her oils all have multiple uses, all are available on our market, all are so very affordable.

Ok, so there you have it…the vain side of your market manager.

Go to the market site, order these products, thank me, always!!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam
