The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Christmas Wrapping

Christmas Wrapping
The Waitresses
“Bah, humbug!” no, that’s too strong
‘Cause it is my favorite holiday
But all this year’s been a busy blur
Don’t think I have the energy
To add to my already mad rush
Just ‘cause it’s ‘tis the season.
The perfect gift for me would be
Completions and connections left from
Last year, ski shop,
Encounter, most interesting.
Had his number but never the time
Most of eighty one passed along those lines.
So deck those halls, trim those trees
Raise up cups of Christmas cheer,
I just need to catch my breath,
Christmas by myself this year.
Calendar picture, frozen landscape,
Chilled this room for twenty-four days,
Evergreens, sparkling snow
Get this winter over with!
Flashback to springtime, saw him again,
Would’ve been good to go for lunch,
Couldn’t agree when we were both free,
We tried, we said we’d keep in touch.
Didn’t, of course, ‘til summertime,
Out to the beach to his boat could I join him?
No, this time it was me,
Sunburn in the third degree.
Now the calendar’s just one page
And, of course, I am excited
Tonight’s the night, I’ve set my mind
Not to do too much about it.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I’ll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I’ll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I’ll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I’ll miss this one this year.
A and P has provided me
With the world’s smallest turkey
Already in the oven, nice and hot
Oh damn! guess what I forgot?
So on with the boots, back out in the snow
To the only all-night grocery,
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
In the line is that guy I’ve been chasing all year!
“I’m spending this one alone,” he said.
“Need a break, this year’s been crazy.”
I said, “me too, but why are you?
You mean you forgot cranberries too?”
Then suddenly we laughed and laughed
Caught on to what was happening
That Christmas magic’s brought this tale
To a very happy ending!
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn’t miss this one this year!
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn’t miss this one this year!
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn’t miss this one this year!
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn’t miss this one this year!

Tonight, I open the market with an entire song, all happy, all merry, all bright!

If you were a kid of the early 80s, well, not so much a kid but an early 20 something in the 80s, you knew this catchy tune. If you worked in retail, back then, it blasted in every mall, in every shop.

The tale of missed chances, missed opportunities, busy lives, deadlines, and the wrong place and the wrong time. But, finally, it all fell into place for our girl in the song, and all was well.

My wish to you, market customers, market vendors, and staff of the YMCA, is that your holiday will be spent in happiness, in love, and in kindness.

I thank you for making this another amazing year at our little local market of love.

I am going to take a couple days off to get my own Christmas Wrapping off to a holiday start!

The market is open, next week. I know you will be busy, but if you take a tiny second, go ahead and place an order.

From the bottom of our hearts, from your two hard working market managers, we wish you a very Merry Christmas, a happy holiday, a super weekend!!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
