The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Alabama, Arkansas,
I do love my Ma and Pa
Not the way that I do love you

Well, holy moly me oh my
You’re the apple of my eye
Girl, I’ve never loved one like you

Man, oh, man, you’re my best friend
I scream it to the nothingness
There ain’t nothing that I need

Well, hot and heavy pumpkin pie
Chocolate candy, Jesus Christ
Ain’t nothing please me more than you

[Chorus:]
Home, let me come home
Home is wherever I’m with you
Home, let me come home
Home is wherever I’m with you

La la la la
Take me home
Mama, I’m coming home

I’ll follow you into the park,
Through the jungle, through the dark
Girl, I’ve never loved one like you

Moats and boats, and waterfalls,
Alleyways, and payphone calls
I been everywhere with you (that’s true)

Laugh until we think we’ll die,
Barefoot on a summer night
Never could be sweeter than with you

And in the streets you run afree,
Like it’s only you and me,
Geez, you’re something to see….
(Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros)

Happy Sunday, and happy day of complete sunshine…good for your heart, and good for your soul…

This song, to add to your market playlist, is one of my very favorite fun little tunes to dance around to.

Some fun facts about it…way, way back in the day, when I first started Cosmic Charlie Bread, 11 years ago…what??? Anyway, in the early years, I was a cottage home baker. I baked for three farmers’ markets, four restaurants, retail shelves, and a bakery, for a short span. I baked for two different shops of my own. I also had pop up clothing shops. In those days, my kitchen was full of bags of flour, bowls, baking sheets, and music. My gosh, the music and coffee and wine kept me going, kept me sane, and kept the beat to all of the dough I was kneading.

This song was in my early bag of tricks of playlists. Over and over…all night baking sessions, packing my little VW with my farmers’ market goods, on the road, constantly. The hustle was never ending, the marketing, the building of my little businesses. Never, not one day, did I give myself a break. The more in demand I became, the more driven I was. Sleep was forgotten, but my drive just increased.

This song marks those early years. It’s also a group that was co-founded by one of my favorite girl singers, Jade Castrinos.

And…one more favorite memory of this song was more recent. On a lovely evening, last month, Hippie and the Farmer had the pleasure of catering a lovely wedding reception for one of our own vendors, here…Rebekah of Flourish. And, as we were clearing the plates, she and her groom took to the dance floor, for their first dance, and this was their song. I literally had to step away from tables, as I started to cry…this song was perfect for them, I love this song, and I really almost ran to the dance floor to dance with them…haha.

Anyway…it’s upbeat, it’s sweet, and it gives hope to love, and life, and all that we try to convey from this little market.

It’s Sunday, I have babbled on, long enough, and now it’s time for me to finish my coffee, and get my own orders in.

There is so much fall goodness on the market…both in food, sweets, candles, oils, soaps…it’s all around us.

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
