The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

My Favorite Things-Part 2

I simply remember my favorite things,
And, then I don’t feel so bad…
(Julie Andrews)

I love when customers send me their likes, dislikes, songs, support, encouragement, and now their favorite things! Keep them coming…it means the world to the vendors!!

And, what I love, is that all of our favorite things will be different, because we all shop, differently, because we are all so different and unique.

This list of favorites comes from weekly customer, Dawn Butcher!

Oh, the chunk honey from Ladybug Acres! My husband eats some every morning on his English muffin! Yum.

Yes, and the fresh, deboned trout from Freshwater Farms! So beautiful and tasty, with butter and sliced almonds on top!

The short ribs from Oakview Farm Meats, fall-off-the-bone tender and juicy and sweet!

Of course red raspberries from Champaign Berry Farm are always a treat. As well as all their lovely jams and preserves.

My ChrisMis Survival Stick works on all my bug bites, blisters, surgical scars, and even my lips. My dogs use it, too.

I love eating eggs from chickens that have happy lives:). Thank you, egg vendors.

I have lavender bundles in my linen drawers, where they still look pretty and make everything smell great.

The item I used most this year: my mesh produce bags! I love them; I can pick my veggies, rinse them while they’re still in the bag, and let them drip dry. The bags are simple but amazing. I don’t remember who made them, but thank you.

Oh, and when it’s available, Pasture Bob’s coffee blend. Unlike many coffees, it tastes as good as it smells.
