The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Sweet Thing

And I will stroll the merry way
And jump the hedges first
And I will drink the clear
Clean water for to quench my thirst
And I shall watch the ferry-boats
And they’ll get high
On a bluer ocean
Against tomorrow’s sky
And I will never grow so old again
And I will walk and talk
In gardens all wet with rain…
(Van Morrison)

Probably one of my very favorite of his songs. Off of one of my oldest, and most cherished albums, Astral Weeks.

Van Morrison music is perfect, it’s every moment music. It’s what I usually turn to, early evenings, lighting candles, and getting dinner prep happening, wine poured, a bit of writing accomplished, and as the sunlight fades to dusk, this is my music of that time of day.

It brings about the same easy feeling of comfort, as this market brings to me. And, all of the customers bring to me. Most of you are no longer customers, though, you have become somewhat of an extended family, each week, meeting up for chat time, laughs, tales of sadness, tales of happiness. The ease of sharing in your lives is something I look forward to, each and every week.

As we draw closer to the end of the month, we will see the fade out of much of the produce, but hopeful that the late season items will continue with the fall squash, kale, chard….the Flourish girls think we have seen the last of the fresh florals, but are working on things like houseplants, to continue to bring that little bit of colorful joy.

Comfort items are taking front and center at the market, and holiday shopping will begin.

Our own little local market, our own little sweet thing of joy, all in the form of goodness, and nourishment for your soul…

The market is open, new items seem to be added, daily, and we look forward to your weekly love….

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
