The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

Give Me The Beat, Boys...

Thanks for the joy that you’ve given me
I want you to know I believe in your song
And rhythm and rhyme and harmony
You’ve helped me along
Makin’ me strong…
(Drift Away-Dobie Gray)

Could there be a better song? And, this lyric…I was singing this, to myself, the other day, thinking of all the outpouring of concern you all have sent my way. It’s kept me on the sunshine side of things.

Also, an update…I’ve moved on to Level 2 of my treatment plan, and the burn team were so very excited about the progress of my healing in Level 1. I return, next Thursday, for a third visit. I remain on baking/soup hiatus, but remember that there is Cosmic frozen soups and breads, and you can order them if you like to be surprised!

On more market beats…

I am awaiting word from Beth of Harrigan’s Harvest because with fingers crossed…she may have asparagus available for this week’s market! As soon as I hear from her, I will send out that HUGE alert…because you know, we LOVE her and her asparagus!!!

Other market beats…

All of our lovely, seasonal, market produce vendors have reported that they are ramping up all growing to be able to have even more at the market, this season!!! SO EXCITED!!!

And, as always, we have the year round loveliness of Old Souls Farm!!

New, this week…

JC Growers have unleashed two new seasoning mixes!!!!

We have so much to offer, so much love that goes into all that our vendors produce for you, and they are here for you!!

Floral updates…

Our girls from Flourish are working out a floral schedule for the market that will help in their time!! Rebekkah remains in Hawaii, and Audrey is rockin’ the good job at Second Harvest Food Bank, and they hope to make a once a month floral offering!! I will announce once they work it out!

And, we will be welcoming a new little local florist, on a weekly basis, bringing blooms from local farms. Not to take away from Flourish, but she will be weekly. Once her prom and Mother’s Day season is over, she will be bringing her floral magic to the market. She’s an up and comer, and she recently opened, Bell’s Flowers, in downtown Urbana!

I think, on the one week a month that Flourish comes on, I will have Bell’s go into vacation mode, that week. That way, we can show each the LOVE!

Give me the beat boys and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
