The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:
Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!
Another reason to order tonight...
While I know you don’t need one, if you needed another reason to order tonight, the market will be closed next week due to Christmas. However we will be open the week of New Year’s Eve. So, that means you had better “double” your order this week in order to prepare for the downtime! Any questions, be sure to let us know but after the market closes tomorrow night we will reopen after Christmas! Have a super evening and have fun with those last minute tasks!
Good morning everyone! I hope you had a fun weekend with lots of wonderful time spent however you needed! I needed mine to be more productive but sometimes that just doesn’t happen, does it? Anyway, I hope your holiday lists are getting completed and checked twice so you can just relax and enjoy the snow which just doesn’t seem to stop!
Just a reminder to note the date… December 16th… as if you needed it! Did you ever think about how easy it is to shop with us? No two-week notice for us! We only need two days for shipping our products with free local delivery! And it really isn’t shipping but more like “running them over” because our vendors are all local.
How cool is that? You have access to fabulous local gifts, goodies and more, right here in your neck-of-the-woods! You go online, place your order by Tuesday evening at 8 pm and vendors deliver it to you on Thursday evening at a convenient, well-lit and safe location that is easy to find and is full of happy, smiling people! I can’t think of an easier way to shop!
For stocking stuffers to the most beautiful ham I have ever seen, we have so many options! (I don’t want to disappoint you but we have nothing for sale that flashes, beeps or needs batteries! Isn’t that a relief?) Be sure to think of us when thinking about your holiday meals and gift giving. We have all you really need! Some of our items are already in gift boxes. Who knew?
Have a great day and please think of us when planning your next two weeks! We appreciate you!
The market is open!
A special thanks to Pam and crew for making it a special market! Congrats to Jodi Compton who was our winner of the $25 prize this week! It could not have happened to a more loyal customer who believes in community! Thanks Jodi for all you do for the world! We are a better community because of you! The market is open and ready for you!
It is THURSDAY!
Good afternoon! It is Thursday and you know what that means! Market pickup is tonight followed by the reopening of the market! Woo hoo! Don’t forget to pick your items up if you have an order this week. Pam and the usual list of suspects will be looking forward to seeing you!
Also, Charlene and the Sheriff at Swisher Hill Herbs wanted to share a message with you…so here it is!
Don’t forget Swisher Hill Herbs Holiday gift sets for Christmas. The gift boxing is absolutely free! There is a gift box set for everyone on your list: the gourmet cook, the busy mom, Grandparents (Grandma’s love lavender!), friends, co-workers, hairdressers and teachers, to name a few. Just click on Swisher Hill Herb Gift Sets and choose your selection. Remember all of our products are salt free, and have no additives or preservatives. Have a Merry Christmas! from Joe and Charlene, Swisher Hill Herbs
While we are talking about gifts for the holidays, remember time is ticking and you are going to miss the best options around: local, handmade, homemade and produced by folks you trust: you know the faces behind the products, so to speak! So shop now while the vendors are still in the holiday spirit!
This market will close Tuesday night(the 17th) so there is still time but you do need to hurry! Have a great Thursday, remember your items at the Y if needed, and be safe this weekend if more snow comes a’flying!
Good evening crazy critters!
As I tromped through the snow to the chicken coop tonight just past dark, the wind was raw and my nerves were shot from an extra strenuous day above our normal level of crazy. I got to thinking about my troubles, which really are zilch, and thought about those pioneer women making the same trip to gather eggs, milk the cow, and more, all without the common conveniences of electricity which keep waterers from freezing and more. This is a time of year that makes me question how our lives have evolved over generations and yet how some things never change. A few minutes later I was thankful to take off my muck boots and get inside, three eggs in tow.
To get closer to your pioneer heritage, why not find something from our market that is homemade, handcrafted, made like it used to be (maple syrup comes to mind!) and more! I’ll keep the market open for a few more minutes but hurry! It is Tuesday and your last chance to order this week!
Be safe, stay home if you can, hug your loved ones, stay warm and shop locally today and every day!
Good morning everyone!
Good morning to you! Just a bit of a reminder that today is Monday and you have one more day to order this week! The market closes tomorrow night at 8 pm so please hurry! You are sure to find something special prior to the holidays!
The market is open, even though the sleet has started!
Good evening! Thanks for braving the rain tonight to come pick up your items! I just came in and yes, it has started to change over. Be safe, stay warm and shop local today and everyday!
That’s a wrap! Have a great evening!
5 minute warning! Due to an opossum scaring the heck out of me on my trip to the coop, I’m giving you five more minutes! It isn’t an everyday occurrence so I thought that might be a lucky sign that you needed another minute! Hurry folks!
And as my dad taught me (totally unrelated but right for tonight!).
Raccoon in the ‘simmon tree,
Possum on the ground.
Possum says "you-son-of-a-gun,
Throw some of those ’simmon’s down."
A few more hours!
Just a note that there are only a few more hours left before the market closes. Get your orders in now!
