Hello, Old Friend

Old friends…there is nothing like the comfort and ease of an old friend. An old friend has known you a lifetime. They know you at your best and at your worst. They know your likes and loves. They hold your deepest secrets. They laugh with you, they cry with you. They cheer you on the gloomiest of days, they cheer you on the sunniest of days!

I feel this way, right now, as I walk through my yard, looking at flower beds, picking up sticks, cutting lilacs for vases around the house…each new bloom that I find feels like saying, Hello, to old friends. At the end of each winter, we know these friends in nature are out there, we know that when they reappear, they will cheer us, makes us smile, and bring sunshine filled days our way, again. We rely on the power of happiness that they bring to our souls.

I would be lost without the love that I get from my close knit group of very old friends….some I have had even since Kindergarten. I was lucky to grow up with guys and girls who still make me smile, who still share the love, and who still feed my soul just like all of nature that is springing back to life.

Celebrate old friends, celebrate new growth that greets you like an old friend, and celebrate us, your friends at the best little local market around. We are here to make you smile, feed your souls, and fill your days with sunshine…

I was chatting with my best friend from high school, the other night. We have a friendship that has spanned decades, survived our crazy, wild youth, and here we are…still joined together even though she lives in North Carolina and I am here.

Our talk came about as she was giving me lots of love about Cosmic Charlie, about successes that I sometimes forget to see in myself, but at the same time, she keeps me real. She started talking about he local things that I am involved in, especially my work and love of this market. She reminded me of a time, even back in high school, when my vision was all about community, communal sharing, opening up a big house, to all of our friends, and just sharing food, drink, and conversation.

I was reminded of that girl…the girl who liked to enlighten, to inspire, to show the love through food, music, and friendship. My friend made me remember and to realize that through my efforts with this market, I am bringing the same kind of local enlightenment that I aspired to so many years ago.

Our conversation left me full of pride, once again, for this local market, our local vendors, you, the local customers…all coming together over our love of the land and our desire to share and grow.

Let yourself feel the local love, the local spirit..make it all happen through our market.

Not worrying about a thing really, really makes life a lot easier!!!

This past weekend, and week, I said goodbye to a person who was very special in both my life and my daughter’s life. She was a young woman who did nothing but shine her light, inspire others, loved, and had a heart that was open to anyone…She left us at much too young of an age, and in the course of making sense of it all, I found myself singing this song, over and over…somehow, it was just comforting to me, guided my sadness, and made me remember to really, really think about everyone in our lives who make it a bit brighter, a bit easier, and who make each of us shine a bit brighter…

As I worked the market, tonight, I was reminded of that with each customer, my assistants, vendors….this little local market is more, to me, than just a market. It has become my family, my friend, the light that I want to see shine brighter and brighter.

What I hope that we bring to you, each week, is the same feeling. We want you not to worry…make this your one thing, each week, to lessen your load. Place your orders and trust with us, and let us nourish your souls with all that the best goodness our local market can offer.
