The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

59th Street Bridge Song

Slow down, you move too fast…
You got to make the morning last…
Just kicking down the cobble stones…
Looking for fun and feelin’ groovy…

(Simon And Garfunkel – The 59th Street Bridge Song (feelin’ Groovy))

So, I have always been told to slow down…take it easy…let yourself rest…

Ummmm…I don’t know how? I am not kidding. I have been a busy queen bee since I was able to walk. Everyone wanted to calm me, constrict me, make me relax. It’s still like that. I run into people who ask me why I do so much? Why am I always busy? I should take time off. I should go on a nice long vacation. I should, I should, I should.

It’s enough to drive a girl insane. Very few people know what drives your market manager. Very few people know what makes me tick. Very few people know that I cannot relax until every little detail is finely tuned.

I get bored, I like to push the boundaries, I hated coloring inside the lines, and I abhorred being ordinary.

And so…enter this little local market of love, it’s own built in eccentricities that I love, and a whole lot of go power!

Go power gets things done, makes people aware, and makes them want to see more of what this market continues to say…Love, Be The Local Love, Be The Local Light…I cannot be still until I know everyone is vibing, grooving, dancing to the local beat.

Get ready to groove your orders. We know that our county fair starts, tomorrow, but there is no reason to not take time out from the busy week to order. Once you order, you can just rest. We do all the work. Slow down, you move too fast…we want your orders, any way that you feel like giving them to us!

With much love in the air…I open up this week’s market to the mellow tunes of Simon and Garfunkel AND of the silent little local song of love that comes from our hearts…

Peace, Love, Good Vibes…

Essential Oils...Pack Them For The Fair!

Just a quick note about essential oils, their uses, and how they can help out with fair week…

Thanks, Joe and Charlene!

In anticipation of Champaign County Fair Week! Swisher Hill Herbs… Feature Essential oils this week in the Virtual Market that can be used to deter mosquitos, spiders, ants and other nuisance insects. Come Together

Just a short and sweet opening market Weblog for this evening!

Tonight, at the market, I was reminded of how special our little community is, how special this little market of love is, and how it all just works when we all…vendors, customers, YMCA, community, all come together in this little local adventure!

Much love and many thanks!

The market is now opening for the week! Over the next few weeks, you will see vendors coming and going in this busy season, and you will see returning seasonal vendors AND additions of new vendors!

Thanks so much for coming together and helping us grow!

A big shout out to Herr Family Farm! It was a peachy kind of night for them! If you missed out on peaches, tonight, you can find them at The Champaign County Farmers Market, on Saturday, or at Tuesday’s Mechanicsburg Farmers and Artisans Market!

Happy Ordering!

Introductions!

We have a brand new vendor with us with really amazing soy candles!! She is new to the farmer’s market circuit, and she has a cool little story behind her candles…

Here is Cathy Ream…

I have been a resident of Champaign County my entire life(50+ years). I established Old Homefarm Candles because I like candles and wanted to have a hobby/business for my future retirement. The name Old Homefarm Candles was chosen, because after attending college and getting married and starting a family, my husband and I returned to my parents’ farm where I was raised and built a house where we now live.

Old Homefarm Candles has been making and selling homemade scented and decorative soy wax candles since 2013. They are sold at the monthly Champaign County Flea and Antique Show, The Depot in Lakeview, Ohio and at several area craft shows or festivals. The homemade scented 16 oz. mason jar candles are richly scented, and long and clean burning, poured with 100% natural soy wax from soybeans. Also sold are 6 piece clamshell wax melts for electric, battery and tea-light burners. These are poured with a 100% soy wax also, specially formulated for melts. Some decorative candles include pies, and drinks and may be poured with gel wax. All are scented with the maximum amount of scents recommended by the scents manufacturer.

Peaches, Part 2

Last night, I sent the market Weblog announcing that the Herrs would be bringing their fresh peaches to the lobby, this evening, at market pick up, for any customers who want to purchase.

I forgot to mention that they will also be at this Saturday’s Champaign County Farmer’s Market with peaches…

You can get them from tonight’s market pickup, you can go to the Champaign County Farmer’s Market, on Saturday, or you can come to the Mechanicsburg Farmers and Artisans market, as usual, to get their peaches and produce, on Tuesday evenings.

Peaches

Movin’ to the country…
Gonna eat a lot of peaches…
Movin’ to the country…
Gonna eat me a lot of peaches…
(Peaches-Presidents Of The United States Of America)

So…here is some excitement!! Tomorrow, in the YMCA lobby, we will have Herr Family Farms set up with all of their fresh orchard peaches!

The Herrs are vendors for me at the Mechanicsburg Farmers and Artisans Market. We would like to see them join our virtual market family, they have a HUGE abundance of peaches, both white, and yellow, and we have invited them to join us, tomorrow, to sell peaches!!

If you are a customer with an order, come early to make sure you don’t miss out. Bring extra cash as they will be operating on their own, and NOT through our system with the YMCA. If you did not place a weekly order, make sure to get to the lobby to get your peaches!

I can tell you that I have purchased their peaches for the past two weeks and they are THE BEST!!!

So, make plans to storm the lobby, tomorrow, at order pick up. Grab your market orders, and/or, get in line for your fresh peaches!

You will thank us, always…they are THAT good!

Peaceful, Easy Feeling

‘Cause I got a peaceful easy feeling…
And I know you won’t let me down…
‘Cause I’m already standing…
On the ground…
(Peaceful Easy Feeling-The Eagles)

Hello, little local market of love customers!! Your market manager is finally seeing the light of day now that all of Art Affair On The Square has been put away for the year!! It is unbelievable just how much work goes into that event, over the months beginning in December, and then escalating to mad proportions, all of July.

My time has been scarce, I didn’t have as much time to write this Weblog, or connect with my people, or, well, have anything resembling a life. But, I love it. I love what the event brings to the community, and I love making things happen.

Last week found me catching up on much needed sleep, laundry, and all things mundane. This week found me catching up on all things with my business, and my friends. My friends are the first that I have to part from in my busy times. But, they are also the first to understand, to text me good luck, to bring me coffee, wine, food, a hug. My friends and family are totally neglected during Art Affair.

But, now, this week, found me meeting pals out for drinks, planning dinners, making wine/champagne dates…just what I love to do in my down time. I finally am regaining that peaceful, easy feeling.

And, I am happy to be totally back on this market. I miss the daily interactions, I missed writing this Weblog, and I miss my vending people/customers.

So, I am back, I NEED time to get my own order in, and so while I am going through the market, you, the lovely customers get until 10:30 to still get YOUR orders in!!

Come on…get that peaceful easy feeling that we all get when we place an order.

We make shopping, fun, affordable, pleasant, local, and full of nutrition!

Show us some LOVE, and we will show you that peaceful, easy feeling…

Peace, Love, Good Vibes…
Cosmic Pam
