The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

The Weekly Countdown!

Yes, my lovely little market of love customers…it is that time of the week, yet again!

Tuesday evening…the magical evening when we begin the winding down of the market. The orders begin their last minute flood into the market site.

Please remember that it is Easter weekend, a holiday weekend, a great weekend to boast all things local!!

It is also the last day of March…we are on the brink of April!! Or, as I like to refer to it as the greatest month of all year!! The month where the sun opened up and smiled and gave everyone the hippie market manager!! Yes…April is this hippie girl’s birthday month!!

So, in honor of the upcoming Easter holiday, and in helping me usher in the greatest month of the year, let’s get those orders in!!!

We can make it all so easy, all so stress free, all so nutrition filled, all so affordable, and the best….all so LOCAL!!!

Show us some love…I will be watching the orders in the next few hours!! Make me smile!!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

White Rabbit

Remember what the dormouse said…
Feed your head, feed your head…
(Jefferson Airplane – White Rabbit)

Yes, white rabbit, Easter is next week, this little local market of love, feed your head…see the theme?

This is the market week where you need to begin thinking about all of your Easter plans, your menu, your needs to make those plans and menu action all happen.

You may spend a traditional Easter, you may have your own traditions, you may celebrate the holiday, like I do, with my side of the family, in the West End, on the evening of Good Friday, with a very untraditional Easter menu. But, did you expect anything else from your hippie market manager?

So, today is Sunday, it’s sunny and happy and on the way to being such a warm week! Start thinking ahead to next weekend. Make a list, sit down, and order it all from our market! You know that the big stores will be crazy and crowded. Why not let us do all of the work, greet you with our usual smiles and wit and charm, hand you your orders of local goodness, and send you on your way…happy and stress free…and local!!

We have it all!!! Go down the market list, order, and we will see you on Thursday!!!

Let us help you feed your head…

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

For Those About To Rock!

For those about to rock, we salute you…
(AC/DC – For Those About To Rock)

So, what do the lyrics from an AC/DC song, and the Cosmic hippie bakestress have in common? Well, once upon a time, I was in high school. I had a core group of friends, we rocked out to AC/DC, like everyone in the very early 80s, and we drove our cool cars (or caught rides in cool cars) with this as our backdrop of music.

Yes…that was me for a fleeting moment in time!

Anyway, as you all know, I hold my friendships to my heart, I hold my West End people even closer, and I hold my high school group in a special place in my heart. They rocked my world, we rocked and we ruled, and together, we all managed to graduate, go on and conquer college, and then went on to be successful hippies, er, wait…that was just me:)

Anyway, one of my best pals in high school, posted on of our old soundtracks from the class of 1982, on Facebook, the other day. I was overcome with memories, laughter, and a love that comes with fondness, and deep seeded familiarity.

AC/DC was high on the soundtrack, this song made me think of this market, and so tonight, I would like to open this little local market of love, with a HUGE Rock Stars of Local salute, for Those About to Rock!! (Our market:)

Go ahead…pick up on the theme, rock our market, make us even bigger rock stars of local legends, and start the fun of ordering!!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Get those orders in!

10pm is quickly approaching!!

Tuesday, Tuesday!

It’s a groovy Tuesday, little local market of love customers!!

Tuesday evening is when we wrap up this market, each and every week!!

Make sure to take a bit of time, before 10pm, this evening, to think about your orders, what you need, what you may want to try, what you want.

The ordering is easy, it takes just seconds, and then you are done for the week! All that is left to do is to pick it all up at the YMCA on Thursday evening!!

You still have plenty of time…I will see everyone at 10pm!!

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

And, Just Like That...

The Stadlers and the Sugar Shack are back with us!!!

Just sending out the word that Valley View Woodlands is back with us…they are madly and wildly tapping, and hoping for more production as we approach these very cold nights that are coming on…

YAY!!! And…just a quick word about their production from Marc and Shary…

Qur “mid season amber” is based on a grading system, and once again, there was no “early season gold” syrup. In a “normal” year (does one exist anymore?) we would tap mid-February, and the first several boils are light and golden. As we did last year, we zipped right to mid. Still hoping for some “late season dark.”

Yes!! Excited to be back with their amazing products!!

Kozmic Blues

I wanna talk about a little bit of loving, yeah…
(Kozmic Blues-Janice Joplin)

So, your market manager, Cosmic Pam, does not have the blues, but I am having a Janice/Bob Dylan kind of listening morning, and this one lyric stood out from Janice’s song, that summed up my feeling for this market, the customers, the vendors, the promotions that go on, behind the scenes, and when I am out and about.

Our market is fast approaching our third anniversary!!! Three years of being open to the public. Three years that have been emotional, hard work, thinking only to rethink, planning, executing…it’s been a crazy, crazy ride but look at how far we have come!

With each market, I am blown away, by the growth, the support, the smiling customer faces, the very close, and hard working vendors that we have onboard, and by the all around love that this little market receives from the community, and beyond.

We have made our name known in just three years. We have picked up a huge momentum in this past year, and your market managers plan to take this little market of love, even further in the next year.

Let’s all show some love, this week, and get those orders in!! Vendors and customers, together, make this market work. We fall under the YMCA, helping us with all things administrative…we are a core group moving into this next phase.

The market exists through all of us and all of our orders…let’s all do our part!

Have a lovely Sunday…

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

We're Back, Live!

That’s right….once again, we are coming at you, live, with the best little local market of love around!!

Thank you to all who ordered, this past week! As usual, the market pick up was met with fun, laughs, good cheer, smiles, a bit of conversation with all customers, and satisfaction that once again, your favorite little market, made it all happen on the local front.

I am opening the market, once again, for the week!! Think about your needs, you goal to shop, locally, and your love of supporting this amazing online farmer’s market!! The only one in the area…

So, here we are…Live!! Go, do your thing….

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I know…I am late in the day but the sentiment is the same!!

Hoping you had a great day if you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!! I went out for a little bit of Irish fun, and now it’s time to let you know that the market will close at 10pm, tonight!!

Go, race, run….get those orders in before you miss out on all of the local goodness!!

You still have time…

Peace and Love,
Cosmic Pam
