The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:
Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!
Champaign Berry Farm
Good morning, lovely customers!!! And, a HUGE thank you, to all of you, who helped to skyrocket this week’s market, after our week off, last week!!

Also…a note from Champaign Berry…
Tomorrow, during market pick up, (for both ordering customers, and non ordering customers, and anyone who wants to drive through)…
Cathy will be set up, 4pm-6pm, with sweet corn and peaches!!
Both are sooooo good!!!! You may want to think ahead as we look into the coming months, about getting all the corn and peaches, that you can, to start getting ready for those winter months (ugh…not ready for that) but, think of the loveliness of grabbing corn/peaches from your freezer or canning supplies, for a pop of summer in the middle of winter.
She is also offering half bushels of peaches for 35.00!!!! If you are interested in purchasing the half bushel, you will need to let Cathy know, ahead of time, you will need to call or text her at…

And, she accepts cash and cards!!!

I’ve had this song rattling around in my head for a few weeks, now. First, I love it, and it will always remind me of my drive from Los Angeles to Raleigh, NC, when I moved for my job as a flight attendant, and my change of bases.
It also has been of great comfort in these crazy weeks of summer with the wedding events for catering, my own daughter’s bridal brunch (which turned out just simply stunning!! If you want to see photos, you can find them on either The Hippie and the Farmer Facebook page, or Instagram page), and while all the happiness has been happening, and now the upcoming wedding of my daughter on September 18, I am also walking a bit of an emotional tightrope as my favorite uncle has been battling what will soon become his final days.
This song’s lyrics have been perfect in helping me find that balance of happiness, sadness, compassion, acceptance, and many phone calls, with him in Oregon, as we retrace my childhood, his outlook on life, his crazy hippie ways (looks like the apple fell close to the family tree, with me), and trying to plan a last trip out to see him, after the wedding.
Balance…the careful balance…
This market has made me smile with all of the orders flooding in. This market is another one of the things in life that I welcome each week, to keep the balance. I was so busy, last week, prepping for a wedding, and on Thursday, I just really missed that there was no market. But, it gave all the vendors a nice week off…more balance. Some time off to relax, regroup, and jump back into it all.
Also, it looks like Blue Jacket is on the market for the week!! Take advantage, and get your orders in for them!!
The Flourish girls have new offerings, as well!!
Closer to fine…this market, ourselves, our lives…we all just want to be closer to fine.

Hello, 1978 song flashback…hello coming off of a weekend of catering a beautiful wedding filled with love, and hello to this week, and the love fest that is about to become my own daughter’s bridal shower. Bridal Brunch. Brunch and Bubbly. The time has finally come, after she has patiently waited out the pandemic.
She is ready…Miss Ohio Is Getting Married…
So, while I am deep into a sea of pinks, getting it all organized, I urge you to place your weekly orders, keeping in mind that the market will be on vacation, next week!!

Welcome back to another market week! We are back for another week, but then we will be taking the following week off for a market vacation!
The vendors work so very hard, and it’s time for a week of rest! And, while we are on break, go out to support another local tradition at The Champaign County Fair!
You may also notice that I am still on break! After catering, this weekend, for a wedding, I then get ready to host and cater my own daughter’s bridal brunch.
After always making weddings a culinary dream, it’s my turn to be on the mom side of things…

The market has so much to order, right now!!
The produce from Kingdom Fish is just crazy beautiful!!! I love using their microgreens to top all of our catering salads…bright, crisp, and full of that extra flavor!
The garlic selections from JCGrowers is crazy good!!
The blackberries from Champaign Berry are so gigantic and flavorful!!
AND…the peaches that Champaign Berry has had available at our drive thru area of the market are OUTSTANDING!!
Hippie and the Farmer will be featuring them in our catering event, this coming weekend, along with the garlic from JCGrowers!
And…Ruthie’s Pies has added her peach pie (out of this world) to the market, using Champaign Berry peaches!!
Local love giving local love…it’s the way of this lovely little local market!
Don’t forget to order!! And, there are quite a few vendors on vacation, this week, but will be back, next week!! Including yours truly…although my vacation is a working vacation from the market…lol.
