The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:
Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!
Last Call!
So, I’m just sending out a little reminder that the market will be closing in a little less than a half hour!!
It’s pretty much exploding, and I would hate for you to miss out, this week!
Just like in my early days of working in pubs to earn cash for moving to California, I am turning up the lights, blaring, New York, New York on the juke box, and making my rounds, gathering glasses, and asking if anyone needs anything else before they have to leave…
Here is your New York, New York moment…
Last call…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
After The Gold Rush
Look at Mother Nature on the run…
(Neil Young)
Well, market lovelies…here we are, on the cusp of another month. This time, we begin the slow movement into September.
September is the month that is still summer while the shadows, the sun, the air, the breeze all change. September then erupts, in the end, to blaze into the colorful, technicolor month of October.
I spent a lot of time, outside, yesterday, doing nothing in particular other than watching the beautiful day, basking in the sun, and bidding the lovely August a final farewell for the year.
I’ve picked Neil Young, this morning, because to me, Neil is fall. His voice is the voice that I remember grooving to in my growing up, running wild where I grew up, with all of my West End pals, Neil blasting from all of our houses, stereos, car windows. We took his music with us on hiking adventures, and midnight hikes to a waterfall area, and parties in parks.
Growing up in those times, in that area, as I have described before, were magical. I feel lucky, and forever grateful that I had a place in the West End, with the predominately boy neighbors, all of us, a gang, a tribe, learning about life, and carrying all that we learned, with us into adulthood.
Some of my best mates, pals, now, are still those guys. We still stay in touch, are close, and I love that we built those life long bonds, all those years ago. We have all mourned the loss of parents, of pals, gone too soon. We have cheered successes, and hugged out failures. I love that all those years ago, all of those guys let a girl into their circle. I am rich in many ways, because of that.
So, today is September 1. It will be our first market of September, and let me tell you…it’s a crazy exploding one!!! The love that you show us…my gosh, it’s heart warming.
And, like my love of the West End, and my gratefulness to my guy pals who always let me tag along, this market has taken a place in my heart, just as deep. You, the customers, warm my heart, each and every week…
This is your last reminder that the market will close, this evening, at 8pm, for the week.
I am off to make Neil the backdrop music of my day, and get the market ready to greet you on Thursday…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
Monday Morning
Monday morning you sure look fine…
(Fleetwood Mac)
To me, there is nothing better than to blast this song on a Monday morning, to get the weekly groove started.
And, I took the weekend off after an amazing Pizza Farm Friday night, with quite a few customers and vendors in attendance! A good time was had by all, but after a night of dancing, and singing, and fun making, then, an early Saturday baking session, and then off to a Saturday evening in Columbus for a quick visit with my daughter, who was in for the weekend, your market manager was tired!!
But, back on my game, and noticing that you all have been keeping the market going, without me, with your orders!
I have been looking at all of them, over my coffee, this morning, and you make me so happy, so proud!
We welcome back our vacationing vendors, this week, as well!!
So, you have until tomorrow evening, at 8pm, to get your orders in!! Remember to take advantage of produce, now, because the season is blowing by so quickly!!
Happy Monday to you!!
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
You Make Me Feel Like Dancing...
I’m in a spin, you know
Shaking on a string, you know
You make me feel like dancing, I’m gonna dance the night away
You make me feel like dancing, I’m gonna dance the night away
You make feel like dancing…
(Leo Sayer)
Because, well, who doesn’t think back to 1976 with this feel good tune. It takes me right back to care free days, nights at the skating rink, or sitting around one of my pal’s swimming pools, or just generally kickin’ it all over the place, growing up in the West End of my hometown.
And, truly, this market…the customers, the vendors, the managers…lol…patting myself on the back. All of it makes me want to dance!!
Today, I was able to be in the greenhouse, during drop off time of products, and yesterday, and last night, lol, and I loved chatting with the vendors. They are all just the loveliest bunch. And, it occurred to me that there is not one weak link in the bunch. That stopped me in my tracks. NOT. ONE. WEAK. LINK.
We are so proud of this market, and how far it has come. Some of the vendors have been around with me, since we all hit the early farmers’ markets scene, years ago. Like, ages ago. Some of the vendors are newer. Some are even the youngest group that we now have…the brother sisters group with eggs.
This day found me able to chat on the phone with one vendor, tonight, who I’ve been in the trenches with forever. She and I haven’t touched base, in so long, but kicking back and shooting the shit with her was just what my soul needed.
Another good friend of mine sent me a text that literally made me laugh harder than I have laughed in so long.
A customer brought me more music cds that he and his wife burn for me.
It just went on and on…the love, man, just the outpouring of love…it made me feel like dancing.
So, I open the market, this evening, once again!
Keep in mind, that next weekend is Labor Day, and you may want to order things for the holiday weekend!
If you get spices from JC Growers, they would be ecstatic at getting their glass bottles back, to reuse!! Jars, lids…they are hard to come by, these days.
Our egg vendors love getting their egg cartons back!
And…most importantly, we just want to see you all, next week…you just put the dance into it all.
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Kodachrome
Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day, oh yeah…
(Paul Simon)
Song Implant from market customer, Kathleen…
Good morning, market customers, on this bright and sunny Tuesday morning!
This song just seems to scream summertime fun, with the groovy beat, the lyrics of brightness, sunshine, happiness…much like I hope the market has been doing for you, all summer long!
The market is full of brightly colored produce, a whole lot of greens, and, we get the golden back with another round of market roadside sweet corn from Champaign Berry Farm, on Thursday, and, to also brighten the week, they have added their sunflower arrangements to the market, this week!
We have richly colored tomatoes, in all colors, peppers in many hues, and the list goes on…
Please take a minute to get your orders in because the market will close, this evening, at 8pm, for the week!
Here’s hoping you have a colorful, groovy day, lovelies…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
Say Hello
Let’s go out and paint the town
And we could turn the world around…
(April Wine)
Well, I stumbled onto this song, and April Wine, not too long ago, and what a blast from my past. I was super into this group in the late 70s? I saw them in concert, cannot remember where, or exactly when, but I know I would be safe in saying, I remember it being a small, club like venue, and I borrowed a co-worker’s ID…underage me, went to a whole lot of shows, in a whole lot of clubs, with that ID. Thankful for all us mall rat workers, who banded together, to help each other out…lol.
But, I am getting away from why I picked this song. I posted all of our vendors who are off on vacation, but there is also a whole lot to Say Hello about…
Truck Patch Naturals is back with groovy stuff!!!
ChrisMis Farms added their much sought after Baklava!
We have luxurious body scrubs from new vendor, Grace Lane Goods!
And, you all are getting your egg orders taken care of with not only the established egg vendors of the market, but also with new kids on the block, 4 Hens & A Rooster!!
This market…it warms my heart!!
Ok, it’s Saturday, and your market managers turn into Hippie and the Farmer for catering a wedding, this evening…
So, while I am busy, all day, you can get busy, saying Hello to the new things on the market, and getting your orders in…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
It’s A Sunshine Day!
And, we added the most adorable new egg vendors from a neighboring farm!
Here is their write up!
4 Hens & A Rooster
We are 4 sisters & a brother . . . Madison (15), Lacy (13), Aleah (11), Saige (9) & William (8). We took care of our chickens daily for almost 3 years. Our chickens produced more eggs than any one family could eat. We had egg custard, fried eggs, scrambled eggs, egg casserole, egg sandwiches, egg salad, deviled eggs . . . well, you get the point. We had eggs coming out our ears. One day, we got the bright idea to turn our chore into a business. We took a dirty ‘ole dusty chicken house and turned it into a cute little place to host our business, all we needed was a name. 4 Hens & A Rooster was born out of the fact that we are a family with 4 girls and 1 little boy!
We hope to expand our business in the future when our garden starts producing and as we learn new skills! We appreciate you supporting our small business!

Vacation
Vacation, all I ever wanted
Vacation, had to get away…
(The Go-Go’s)
Well, I am not going on vacation, but next week, many of your market vendors will be on vacay mode!!
Let’s give the vacation role call…
Flourish!
Burns Bakery and Fudge!
Ga-Ga’s Goodies!

While we will miss them all, we bid them all a lovely bit of time away, and we give Rebekah, of Flourish, a huge congrats, as it’s her wedding weekend!
Anyway…the rest of you are stuck, here, with me…let’s get those orders rolling…
Also…super important…our egg vendors are all working hard to get more eggs on the market!!
