The Weblog
The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:
Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

I’m going back
Going back to my own ones
Come back to talk
Talk a while with my own ones
Cause the world is so cold
Don’t care nothing ’bout your soul
You share with your own ones…

Happy Sunday morning!!
Your market manager is enjoying a slow morning, drinking coffee, listening to Van Morrison, and thinking about this market, and how I hope that you know, how much I care of about your soul, and your happiness, and your well being…
The market is open for all that you need for the week. When you purchase from the market, not only are you getting such beautiful, nutritional food, but you are also getting the heart and soul of each grower/producer.
What I have been witnessing, ever since the March move of the market, and with each week, is that the market has built such a network of love and spirit. Customers becoming family, and sharing…recipes, thoughts, small items that they have grown, music…and, I love putting things into all of your boxes, off and on, just to let you all know how much you are appreciated, and hoping that you think of the market as your weekly bit of heart and soul.
The market is open for ordering, and this morning seems like the perfect kind of morning for sitting, making a list, and giving us your orders.
Remember…while we are a year round market, the produce season/berry season is not going to last forever…so take advantage!
We are seeing the arrival of fall squash, and pumpkins!! We also will see The Airport Cafe step in to offer the pies that they are so well known for around this county, and surrounding counties, as we have had to say farewell to Burns Bakery and Fudge! We also have your favorites from Ruthie’s Pies, and Lori Crawford will be stepping in with more cupcake options, via her Ga-Ga’s Goodies…
Soon, I will be offering my Cosmic soups, again, and new, fall breads…
Have a lovely Sunday, everyone…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
Nobody Knows...
And we set out so long ago
Search the heavens and the Earth below
Nobody knows how to get back home
Through the darkness to the dawn
And when I looked back you were gone
Heard your voice leading me on
Through the darkness to the dawn
Love is deep as the road is long
And moves my feet to carry on
It beats my heart when you are gone
Love is deep as the road is long
Nobody knows how the story ends
Live the day, doing what you can
This is only where it began
Nobody knows how the story ends
Nobody knows how the story ends…

Hello, lovely market customers, and vendors!! I’m here to wish you all a love filled evening, and a happy start to the market week of ordering.
It was so nice to see all of you, today, and this evening. You all bring me so much joy. You all have help to build this market into so much more than I could ever have hoped.
And, we all know that things cannot build without hope, determination, love, peace, communal spirit, compassion, and all of us helping eachother.
If you were a market customer, this week, you would have found a little surprise in your boxes. I gave each of you little starts off of my many succulents, called, Mother Of Thousands. I love that so very much. Just the name resonates love. My thought in passing the starts to all of you, is that you will read the instruction sheet, and let them take root, transplant, grow them with love and patience, and when they are old enough, they will give tiny little plant babies on it’s edges. You can then remove them, and begin to collect them, and maybe pass on to others. You know…a love chain that just keeps going.
I choose this song to open the market, this evening, because it is one of the most lovely songs with lovely lyrics. On this eve, of what will be a very somber day, tomorrow, I felt it said exactly what I hoped to convey.
I will not be posting, tomorrow. The market is open, and I will watch your orders, but for me, tomorrow needs silence, and peaceful thoughts, and love.
As we do, each year, on the eve of 9/11, we all look inwardly, and outwardly. We search our own hearts, and we look at our brotherhood/sisterhood to make sure everyone is ok. Everyone feels love. Everyone feels peace. No sense will ever be made of what happened. But with enough love, we can ease each other. And we need that, now, and always.
So, maybe it was timely to send out the Mother of Thousands to all of you, tonight. Love passing more love on…
Keep the peace, lovelies…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Morning Has Broken
Morning has broken like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird
Praise for the singing
Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the Word
Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dew fall on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden…

Song Implant: Customer Susan Lantz
Well, I can’t think of a more beautiful song to greet you with. I found Susan’s song title, inside her ziplock bag, with her payment. I love when you all tuck these songs into places because they are like little love notes when I find them.
This song, also, reminds me so much of my elementary school years, and our cool, hip student music teacher who came to us for one term. I know I have mentioned this before, but she was like no other teacher we had experienced. Her groovy wardrobe, her zest for everything, and her introducing us to her music, this song being part of that. We got to toss aside our usual boring music class songs, and got to listen to albums, and listen to her talk about having been at different music events, and she let us sing all of these songs. This song always reminds me of her, and I wish I had been older, then, to have really realized the world that she opened up to many of us. But, I realize it, now, and somewhere, out there, I’m hoping she knows how many lives she really opened up…
And, also on this lovely morning, I want to thank you all, so much, for coming out in full force, on a holiday weekend, to show the market so many orders, and so much love!!
I feel confident that we can handle no time slots, tomorrow!! We are without my father for about a month, as my parents are away on vacation. But, I know we can do this!!
So, tomorrow, come anytime between 4pm-6pm!! If you need a Friday pick up, please let me know, and I will mark it on your order forms!!
Bring me your songs, too…I simply love getting your musical notes!
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
Lean On Me
Sometimes in our lives we all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there’s always tomorrow
Lean on me, when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need
Somebody to lean on
Please swallow your pride
If I have things you need to borrow
For no one can fill those of your needs
That you won’t let show
You just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you’ll understand
We all need somebody to lean on
Lean on me, when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need
Somebody to lean on
You just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you’ll understand
We all need somebody to lean on
If there is a load you have to bear
That you can’t carry
I’m right up the road
I’ll share your load
(Bill Withers)
Song Implant-Market Customer Bev Titus
Last week, we saw the return of Bev to the market, as a customer, after having been traveling over the summer months.
She had placed her envelope with her payment, in her trunk, for me to grab when I loaded her boxes of orders. She was so thoughtful as to not want to get out of her car, after having been travelling. When I picked up her envelope, this song title was written on her envelope. It made me smile, because this really is just the most perfect song about life, friends, strangers, family…and, all tied in together, it reminds me of this little market family.
I feel so lucky to be your leader, your ever faithful market manager, your local inspiration. This market has grown, and while it has grown to new levels, it remains such a close knit family of customers/vendors. And, each week, those bonds become stronger, and my love for all you, deeper.
Today is Tuesday, and I hope that your holiday weekend was spent doing whatever makes you happy, while celebrating the reason we have Labor Day.
It is also the last day to get your orders in for the week. We will close the market out, tonight, at 8pm, for the week.
As always, my market blog is sent in love…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
Flourish Update
As colder season is amongst us we are losing some blooms and trying to be creative with what we can add to the market as we move forward including plants.
However for this coming week we have a few updates we were hoping could be sent out!
This will likely be the last week for our zinnia bundles and lavender bundles. However we have added some more speciality flowers for a limited time including dahlia and astrantia bundles.
Thank you to Flourish!
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
You Ain't Goin' Nowhere
Morning came and morning went
Pick up your money and pack up your tent
You ain’t going nowhere…
(Written/performed by Bob Dylan)
(My favorite version is performed by The Byrds on their, Sweetheart Of The Rodeo album)
Looking for a bit of feel good twirly music…here you go!
Just like this market always makes me feel, I always feel like dancing around, when I hear this song.
So, we’ve got a holiday weekend happening, and if you find yourself with a bit of time, why not get your market orders in? Put on some tunes, look through the offerings, and get all groovy for the week upon us!
Your market manager has another day of work, ahead, and then I am slipping into two days of nothing until I start baking, again, next week.
Go ahead, start your Saturday with a feel good song, keep that song in your heart, and sing it out…
Much love to you all…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
Friday Announcements!
Good morning, lovely customers, and, once again, thank you for an amazing market, last night!!
While you are looking at the market site, this weekend, and placing your orders, there are a few announcements!!
First…we will soon be saying farewell to Burns Bakery and Fudge, and I am posting a note from Karen, to explain:
Hello Burns Bakery and Fudge customers, I want to let you know what Bill and I are up to. We sold our house and the last week of September we will be moving to Kentucky for 9 months. We have accepted positions at a small rural school where Bill will be cooking, I will be doing some school nursing and we will be staff mentors, along with other responsibilities. It is a very poor county with a lot of challenges, but we feel that this is what God is calling us to do. We are on vacation mode next week because we are going down for a few days to tie up some loose ends but we will be taking market orders September 17th and 24th. So get your goodies while you can! We aren’t sure where we will land when the school year is over, but if we end up back in Urbana, we plan to be market vendors once again. Thank you for being such wonderful customers! Karen and Bill Burns
We wish them well in their new adventure, and will welcome them back, should they return to Urbana!!
Second….we welcome a new vendor, Gourmet Fibers, Cottage Alpaca Creations!! Under the Growers tab, you can find their name, and click on their website to read all about them!!
Welcome aboard the market!!
Also…a note from Champaign Berry Farms…due to circumstances beyond their control, they had to take yesterday off from their sweet corn stand, at the market. They hope to be back, next Thursday, and will keep us posted! On the good news front, they should be with us, way into the fall, with their supply!! They appreciated all of the kind words, last night, and the fact that they were missed!
Customers…if you failed to pick up your orders, last night, and did not make prior arrangements as a Friday pick up, please take care of that!! I want to close out my reports, and cannot do so until your orders are picked up!!
One more note…August seemed to be the month for a lot of credit card expiration dates!! If this was the case with your card, please phone me with updated information, if you have not already done so!
Thank you for being a part of this lovely market family!
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
Short and Sweet
Your market manager is tired after a super great market!
Announcements to come, tomorrow, but until then, the market reopens!
And, your market manager is in need of beauty sleep!
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
