The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

My Heartfelt Thank You

Your morning weblog comes from your very grateful, and proud market manager…

As I closed the market, last night, the last orders were still coming in. Each week you’ve been propelling us, to new levels. This week, we skyrocketed to a place that has no words. We love your support, we love your dedication, we love the new customers, over 20 this week, who will now get to know the market love that has been happening for 9 years…

I just wanted to take this moment to thank you, and to tell you to please watch your emails, because I will be sending a weblog explaining how we will be doing the market pick up, tomorrow, to streamline the event, to get you on the road, quickly, and to keep you all in your cars, safe and healthy.

If the sun is shining, tomorrow, during your wait, bask in the warmth, take in the view, and get ready to experience the total local farm experience.

And, if you would like to pre-pay, you can call me, today, to give payment information! If we have your information, no need to call, we will run your payments. If you used us, at the YMCA, and had a card on file, we need you to call us with card information. We brought nothing of their systems with us!

Again…my heartfelt thank you, and if you feel so inclined, in your day of solitude, turn on some John Prine, and pay tribute to his sad passing. Your market manager is feeling it, deeply, today…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Closing Time

So gather up your jackets, move it to the exits
I hope you have found a friend…
(Closing Time-Semi Sonic)

Ok, listen up..the market closes at 10pm, and we are breaking all records!

You still have time to order!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

A Word From Stoll/Vernon Family Farms

Vernon Grass-Fed Lamb

It’s Easter soon and what a treat to serve Leg of Lamb Chops for your family dinner this year!
These chops are cut from the favorite part of the lamb. They are a thick cut and dense with a natural sweet flavor. If you like beef rib eye, you will love the similar taste of these chops. Use your favorite seasonings and an au jus if you like with roasted vegetables!
Remember to use a little good olive oil while cooking as these grass fed cuts are very lean and packed with meat!
We raise only Grass- Fed animals on our farms to capture the best nutrients and natural grasses for our animals to graze all year long!
2 per package with approximate weight of 2 lbs per package for $21.00.
Enjoy and have a blessed Easter!

Linda

Thank You

And, so today, my world it smiles…
(Lyric from Thank You-Led Zeppelin)

Today, my world, the market world, the vendor world, the customer world…it all smiles, as each and every order comes in.

It’s Tuesday, and well, the orders and sales have been staggering. We still have until this evening, at 10pm, to take orders, and then we will all get to work to bring you the best of the best, the best local has to offer, the best spirit, the best soul, the best market…

Let this serve as your reminder, and I will then give you a last call reminder, this evening, before closing.

Thank you…the words bear so much meaning, and yet not near enough, for this market manager to express…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Heart Of Gold

I want to live,
I want to give
I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold.
It’s these expressions I never give
That keep me searching for a heart of gold…
(Heart Of Gold…Neil Young)

Well, here we are on a sunny, sort of chilly Monday morning, still in this time of oddness, the quiet, the madness, all mixed in with this new normal.

I’m listening to a set list of Neil Young, this morning, especially his harmonica playing, because in my moments of solitude, I am teaching myself some of the different instruments in my collection.

And, this song…Heart Of Gold…it’s what I have for all of you. The lovely customers, the lovely vendors, this lovely market.

You all are making it golden. This weekend has now crashed all records, flying higher and higher. You are amazing, you make me cry more than you could imagine, and you rally. You bring me you spirit, your smiles, your kind emails and texts. The vendors are working round the clock to make sure we all stay on top of product, and to say that I feel we are all creating a golden bubble to float through all of this, is an understatement.

My gratitude is deep, my love is real, and my heart is full from all of you…

*Notes:

I added a another egg vendor…Happy Chickens!! We are so thankful for their addition!!

If you are a dog treat customer from The Barkery, please get your orders in, today, by say, mid afternoon!

The rest of you, the market closes tomorrow night, at 10pm. How high can we go, how gold can we get?

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Hello, Old Friend

As I am strolling down the garden path,
I saw a flower glowing in the dark.
It looked so pretty and it was unique;
I had to bend down just to have a peek.
Hello old friend,
It’s really good to see you once again.
Hello old friend,
It’s really good to see you once again.
(Hello, Old Friend-Eric Clapton)

Well, well, well…we have now welcomed back Blue Jacket Dairy with their cheeses, and, now, we say hello to the return of everyone’s favorite garlic duo/spice masters, JC Growers!!

Carla and Jenny are the hardworking gals of the garlic farm, and Carla and I hail way back to the early days of farmers’ markets, where we both got our launch, years and years ago.

We were both in the trenches, on our soapboxes, fighting for local, fighting to tell people to know their food, and fighting the good fight to keep farmers’ markets legit, to not allow unknown produce, auction produce into the arena…making us both popular, and unpopular in the early days.

We co-managed the Mechanicsburg market, for years, and we have both been working hard, working our crafts, working our gigs, and going in our own directions, our own paths, since those early days of markets…

So, with much love and admiration, I welcome them back to the market, and hope that you will show them the same love, as well as all of our vendors..

Happy Sunday, lovely customers…you have already broken another record, let’s see how high we fly, this week…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Here Comes The Sun

Here comes the sun, and I say
It’s all right…
(The Beatles)

Well, lovely market customers, we had a beautiful sunshine day, yesterday, and we are in for another, today…when the sun is shining, my soul is lifted, your souls are lifted, and it seems that for a moment in time, it’s all really all right…

And, well, it all will be all right, we know that. We know that it may take a bit of time, but little by little the sun will shine, we will all be released into the wilds, and allowed to roam, talk, congregate, and resume real life.

But, until then, let us be your sunshine. Let us be your light in the little local community. Let us bring you all that our market has to offer. And, remembering that Easter is coming up, next weekend, and while I know everyone will need to celebrate in a more secluded way, why not order special indulgences, from us, along with your weekly needed items. Make the Easter weekend as special as you can…

Sending all the love and sunshine, today, and a huge thank you, as it’s only Saturday, and the market is poised to break another record…

Many love vibes,
Cosmic Pam

Hey, Now!!

Tonight is a short and sweet weblog because your market manager is a tired Hippie girl…

But, you totally made this market an explosion of orders and love, this evening!! You touched my soul with all of the kind words, and you made me smile, and I not only felt the warmth of the sunshine, but also the warmth of what is now becoming a driveway party as we take all of your orders, to each of your cars, and have a safe distanced chat with each of you.

You have taken the market to new levels, and I love to the moon and back for that.

I will update more, tomorrow, but tonight I wanted to let you know that we are adding another new vendor back to our fold…Blue Jacket Dairy is back with their amazing cheeses!!!

We look forward to their products!!

Now, go, have sweet dreams, and get ready to order, again, as I open up the market…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

A Last Note...

My last love note of the ordering week to remind you that the market will close, this evening, at 10pm., and you do not want to miss all of the fun!

We have shattered even last week’s amazing sales records, and then you came back, even stronger, this week, to show us even more love.

Thursday is going to be a sunshine day, it will be a nice little drive out to the country to pick up your boxed orders, you do not need to leave your car, and you get our smiling faces, bringing you all of the local goodness!

We have so much to offer you, and now it’s time to get those last orders in!

All of our new customers have returned from last week, our weekly customers are going strong, AND…we are saying HELLO to returning customers who have been absent for a few years…

This market, the customers, the vendors…it all equals the love…

Cosmic Pam
