The Weblog

The local foods movement is alive and well in Champaign County! Here are some updates on other projects while we finalize our virtual market:

Local Producers Map:
Our local producers map is ready for publication and you will soon be able to find it on gochampaign.com. Copies will be distributed around the community, in the local telephone book, and other “hangouts”. The guide lists the location and contact information for nearly 50 local producers within our county. The map was a project of the Local Food Council and printed with the help of some local sponsors including the Monument Square District, Champaign Bank, the Community Improvement Corporation, the Chamber of Commerce, the Farm Bureau and others. It is a great start to finding a local source for Champaign County’s finest!

The Rains Came

Half a mile from the county fair
And the rain came pourin’ down
Me and Billy standin’ there
With a silver half a crown…
(It Stoned Me- Van Morrison)

Well, the rain certainly has been pouring down, today!!

Thank you to everyone who braved the wetness just to get your orders! True little local market of love customers!

Also, thank you for being such a great group while I had to be away from the market, tonight, at pick up! Mark did a super job, and reported how helpful you all were!!

The market is opening for the week! Let’s hope for a bit of sunshine, and a bit of dry weather! I hope everyone has a very happy Easter, and we look forward to another week of market love!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Exta, Extra, Read All About It!

Just a quick note to let you know that a most amazing article was written about our market from Brenda Burns of the Urbana Daily Citizen, AND, a weekly market customer!!

The article was such an amazing surprise, yesterday!! Most of the time, we will get interviewed by various publications, on the facts, figures, general workings of the market. Most of the time, the interviews are done by people who are not local, have no idea what we do, or the passion that goes into the everyday workings of this market.

Brenda did not interview. She wrote from her own experiences, as a customer.

It is an amazing promotion of the heart and soul that we all are/bring to this market!

If you do not get the paper, you can go to our Facebook page!! I put a picture of the article on for reading!!

Thank you, to all of you, who love our market, with locally loyalty and love…and, thank you to Brenda!!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Sunday Vibes

So when I’m feelin’ all alone
I think of home and how you used to sing to me
?Que Sera, Sera? life goes on
Whatever’s meant to be will always be
And baby, what don’t kill you will make you strong
Just love the journey that you’re on…
(Pray For You-Sara Evans)

On this Sunday morning, I am enjoying coffee, and a visit with my lovely daughter who came to town, yesterday, and spent the night in her old room, in the home that she grew up in, since moving from Florida, when she was 5. She is now 24 years old.

When we moved to Champaign County, it was going to be a two year gig. Short little journey. We fell in love with the area, our home, and life in the country. She began her transition from beach life to Midwest life. A bumpy first year? Yes. A lot of tears? Yes. But then it became home, a place that we continued to grow and thrive in.

The years sped past, she was suddenly in high school, and we embraced those years at Graham with so much love. Then, it was college selection time, sorority rush time, studying in Italy time, college graduation time…and, I must gush over the fact that she graduated from my alma mater, and pledged my old sorority…proud, always.

Then, she moved on to Columbus to find her way, settle into two different amazing jobs that allowed her to explore her fashion journey that was her major.

She now is probably going to be making another break for it, and moving even further away. I know that by August, her strong willed ways will take her away. I hate it. I love it. Ugh…parenting.

We had an amazing visit, yesterday, and last night, and we talked about what I was doing at her age…drifting around California as a flight attendant, and part time trade show model, living on the edge. I raised her to be a strong woman, just as my grandmother instilled in me. Her whole life, I stood back, guiding, watching, hoping, nudging, hoping, and always there to catch the falls.

Growth, age, independence, strength, courage…it’s what every parent wants and hopes for as they raise these little kit kats. But then, they really do become that, you find out that you raised a strong young woman, and then it mocks you because while it makes you proud, it tears your heart out…in a good way, but you get the drift…

Anyway…what does this have to do with my weblog?

Growth, independence, pride…we have it all at this little local market of love. We offer it, weekly, to everyone. It makes us happy, it makes us so humbled by your love of what we all do, here, and while we all work our magic, each week, as vendors, I get the added bonus of the emotional side of things, as it grows, shows so much love, and so much hope…

The mother of the market, I suppose…and, just like the mother that I’ve always been with my daughter, I feel that I have helped give the market wings, courage, and encouragement…

The song lyrics that I chose are from a song that my daughter played for me, yesterday, telling me that when she has a bad day, she listens to this, and remembers me, our porch, my arms, my advice, and how I used to push her, for endless hours in her swing, in our backyard, singing Que Sera, Sera to her…

I can’t help it…I am a nurturing, loving, caring kind of mom…and this market is just another soul that I like to tend to…

The market welcomes your love, and your orders…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Madness Mania!

The Snow Globe

Because of the snow filled morning, school closings, and many delays, I am keeping the market open until 8:30, to get your last minute orders in!!

Pass the time, while you wait for the morning to start, by getting your order together!!

And, let’s hope, this is the last that we see of this snow globe effect…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Daydream

And even if time has passing me by a lot
I couldn’t care less about the dues you say I got
Tomorrow I’ll pay the dues for droppin’ my load
A pie in your face for bein’ a sleepy bulltoad…
(Lovin’ Spoonful-Daydream)

Soooooo….I had a super post, all ready to go, to welcome in the spring weather, to shed sunshine all over your day, and to talk about growth, green, golden tones…but, as usual, Mother Nature has the last laugh.

Happy first day of spring…happy day of incoming snow, ice, wind…yes, the winter that wouldn’t leave. The spring teases, the winter crushes.

Anyway…we just keep all warm and cozy in our little online world. The market is rolling, the orders are spinning, and it’s the perfect way to stay out of the cold, out of the big stores, and staying in with local food, nutrition, and value. All with the ease of ordering, picking it up with ease, and getting smiles and chatting from your lovely market managers, and your Y staff…can you get that anywhere else?

Ok…go dream your own daydream about spring…but first…groove us your order…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Welcome Back!

And, welcome to another week of ordering up the local goodness, right here, at our market!

Place your orders with the market you can trust!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Snow, Wind, Cold

Good Morning!! Happy Wednesday, and happy end of our market week!! That’s right…time to get those orders in, this morning, by 8am!!

I hope that the one good thing about this crazy weather, is that you have been able to keep warm while doing your shopping, with us, out of the elements!!

You still have time to give our market some love, this week, and in turn, give yourself that same love by making your week a bit easier!!

Our market is a strong community market with much pride in what we do, what we offer, and who our vendors are!! You have helped us, each week, with your support and love!!

Keep it groovy, this week…throw us your orders…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
